Front page on the [BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-60172176) too! I’d like to remind everyone that this case doesn’t deal with the alleged rape rather the charges about filing a false police report, to which she was found innocent. We still do not definitively know whether or not the 12 Israelis were guilty of committing the rape beyond a reasonable doubt.
Personally I agree with the Supreme Court in this one, the defendant has been dragged to high hell through this case and I can’t imagine what her mental state must have been like during these proceedings. I believe if the ruling upheld the conviction it would very much end up in Strasbourg, as there were too many breaches of Article 6 of the ECHR. Unfortunately I don’t know how much damage has been done to the reputation of the police and the courts when it comes to rape victims. I hope that the legislature and police work to regain the trust and help victims come forward….
I really cannot feel sorry for the police for how they mishandled the case. But everybody forgets that there was an incriminating video circulating, and that many of the accused had concrete alibis.
Justice is about having a system that is fair to the people. Let us hope that this decision will lead to a chain reaction of corrections.
The only thing we learn from this case is that being able to afford a sleezy lawyer will always get you out of trouble. She wanted revenge because they filmed her without her knowing but she had consented to the sex with 3 of them if I remember correctly. If anyone still has doubts just go watch the video. I had it in my old phone.
Peace. ☮️
I’ve not read the decision from the Supreme Court, but the decision from the district judge had so many information. a must read. You can find it on [cylaw.org](https://cylaw.org) You learn that the “victim” changed hostel the next day for a 5 star hostel and the police found her enjoying the swimming pools with her friends… That she refused to see a psy. That she never ever complained during the process that nobody understood her and never asked for a translator. That the legist doctor never found any trace of violence in his examination… etc…
banana republic
I’ve read both the BBC and the politics articles and neither of them spell out exactly what happened. Did they provide an interpeter for her or not? What happened during the time she was being questioned by the police that made her “confess”? The video in question: was it used by the accused to prove their innocence or by her to prove their culpability? Did the doctor that examined her give a statement? I know that the Cy police screwed up because this is their natural MO with a case like this, but I’m not clear on the specifics.
