Before people get the wrong idea from the headline, this is the actual story:
>Four corporate products – tobacco, ultra-processed foods, fossil fuels and alcohol – cause 19 million deaths per year globally, or 34% of all deaths.
While I’m not a fan of smoking and would even support a ban, blaming smoker deaths specifically on “corporate greed” seems a bit far-fetched to me. While they may still have some ethical responsibility, blaming corporations is not helpful in this case – it’s society and politics who actively decide this should be legal and encouraged.
You could absolutely blame e. g. excessive worker deaths on corporate greed where they happen, but just people consuming legal harmful products by choice? Not really.
Corporations need more power.
