  1. Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof, realy exotic place.

Edit: it a bit away, from your route, but it pays off 😂

  2. Freiburg trier and Bingen all nice and with minimal detour on your route

  3. You should not miss the beautiful Strasbourg even when it’s not in Germany.

Also you should visit Freiburg and the Kaiserstuhl (a beautiful hilly area covered with vineyards). A nice little medieval village there is for example Burkheim.

  4. Nice city’s: Freiburg, Straßburg, Baden Baden
Maybe a detour via the “Schwarzwaldhochstraße”, Europapark… and so on

  5. The world war fortresses are mostly on the French side. For example the “gros ouvrage du Hackenberg”. Reserve in advance !

In any case I would recommend driving through France, more relaxing and nicer scenery.

  6. I would like to add the “Luxemburgische Schweiz” which is an area near Echternach, Luxemburg with beautiful hiking options.

  7. I’d definitely stop in Baden-Baden and Rastatt. The drive from Karlsruhe to Saarbrücken I remember being very scenic as well.

It’s not in Germany but you can’t miss Olten on your way 😉

  8. Shoutout to Trier which is not far off, it’s nice and lots to see for a day. Also really good wine region up there.

  9. Haut-Koenigsbourg is an absolutely stunning medieval castle restored by German emperor Wilhelm II in the late 19th/early 20th century, not much of a detour but it is on the French side.

  10. You should visit the Technick Museum Speyer and Sinsheim (Concorde, Buran)

  11. Trier. It’s a beautiful city and one of the oldest in Germany. Visit the Porta Nigra, the Kaiserthermen and a few other awsome places.

  12. I‘d go to Trier for the roman citygate porta nigra and to Speyer for the marvellous romanesque cathedral.

  13. Freiburg and Strasbourg should really not be missed if you are going that way. Both are lovely cities.

Sorry your folks are unlikely to take you to Europa Park, but as a parent, it doesn’t hurt to ask! Give it a shot. Sometimes even we surprise ourselves.

Hope you have a great trip regardless.

  14. Dont take this route, but instead take the parallel route in France. Alsace is gorgeous, you will drive through a valley that is a major wine region, with hills littered with castles and with beautiful cities like Strassbourg and Colmar on the way.

  15. Come to Heidelberg. We’ve got castles. We’ve got hikes. We’ve got good wine and beer. Heidelberg

  16. Freiburg and Straßburg for sure!! I am sure it will be 10× prettier in summer than in winter

  17. Freiburg is nice, from there I‘d drive along the French side of the border: Colmar, Haut-Koenigsbourg castle, Strasbourg

  18. Weltkulturerbe Völklinger Hütte in the morning, then continue to Trier in the afternoon. The city is very small and walkable. Have a glass of wine and some good food in the evening.

  19. You should check out the Völklinger Hütte.
It‘s an old steel factory that had operated for 100 years before it was shut down. It‘s one of the very few ones of it‘s type still existing. It‘s part of the UNESCO World heritage and you can walk around all of it‘s manufacturing area. It‘s honestly mindbogglig how big that thing is. I can 100% reccomend

  20. You should consider a detour via Schwarzwaldhochstraße. Look it up online. It’s a quite scenic route that your parents might like.
