Yesterday I decided that I needed new socks. So I ordered about 10 pairs.

Today, I had some drawer organisers arrive, only 2 as I wasn't sure they'd fit. I decided to sort my knicker drawer out first, get rid of a load, and use the organisers in there.

After the ridiculous amount of them I had (68 pairs, WTF?!?!), I decided that I may as well sort my socks too, ready for the new ones arriving and getting more organisers.

This is the pile of them. Turns out, I absolutely did NOT need new socks.

I had:

76 pairs of ankle socks

35 pairs of trainer socks

And in other drawers, I also have:

23 pairs of fluffy/thick socks

4 pairs of knee length socks
12 Sports bras

13 pull on bra tops (to keep 'em contained when WFH)

9 wired bras – I have not even worn a wired bra since August 2020!!

What is wrong with me?

Its actually ridiculous, people used to go their whole lives with just a couple of outfits, nowadays we just have so much stuff!!

I need to sort my life out!

  1. You can go 10 weeks without washing your socks. That sounds like a dream.

(You’ve reminded me, I need to buy new jeans as I’ve managed to wear a hole in a pair)

  2. What this says to me is that you have at least a hundred potentially chatty sock puppet friends in potentia.

I have buttons if you need eyes.

  3. What’s the difference between ankle socks and trainer socks?

  4. I have half of a drawer (in a standard size chest of drawers) dedicated to just socks. It’s not a problem, I always have cool socks on

  5. Those wired bras? Send them to Smalls For All for someone else to benefit

  6. Also do you have any odd socks because I can never, never, never ever pair all my socks at once

  7. Just throw out any you haven’t worn for more than a year.

  8. I recently bought my wife 20 pairs of black socks, so 40 identical socks. She has ‘lost’ almost every single one.

I’ve told her if she sorts her ADHD pile of shame in the corner she’ll probably find all the socks and other clothing she’s ‘lost’.

  9. Pairing the socks up after they’re washed is probably one of my favourite household jobs.

I haven’t had to do around a hundred at one time though!

  10. Recently got told off for having too many socks so did a count myself. 70 pairs of socks and 40 odd boxers. I did a clear out but a LOT were still in great condition. Good to see I’m not alone.

  11. I was in a similar situation and had a sock purge a few months ago. I separated them into summer socks and winter socks, and kept only 25 pairs of each category (so that they would fit my drawer organizers perfectly) and tossed the rest even though it was painful. I do love me some fun socks.

Pro tip: You can keep the ones you have decided to toss in a separate box, wear them once and put them in the bin at the end of the day. Laundry-free sock wearing experience for like a month.
