Is Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant at risk of an ‘accident’? Just a reminder for everyone promoting nuclear power, we almost had a huge catastrophe in Ukraine, and the plant is being run by incompetent Russians today. The head of the IAEA has warned its only a matter of time before disaster.

Ah Aljazeera.
Anyway, nuclear power is actually a deterrent. Risking a meltdown is not anything but a bluff, a bargaining chip, a way to rattle sabers.
No superpower would shoot themself in the foot by trying it, especially so close their own borders, and yes, even the Russians.
The world is already set for MAD. Reactors won’t change that and will not become easy targets.
Don’t be so scared.
“Almost had a huge catastrophe.”
Hate to break it to you but we’re already in a huge catastrophe called climate change.
Yes, conflict is the newest risk added to the other risks like natural disasters and incompetent management . Also putting all your energy eggs in one basket has a general risk lack of resilience. We still need to support safe, inexpensive, small scale nuclear at least until fusion is fully realized.
Almost, but it was actually Kakhovka dam which has caused a disaster. When you look at it, it is more likely that dam will cause you a harm, than NPP. And that’s by order of a magnitude.
Should we stop promoting building of dams?
This is why we need safer reactors like terrapowers reactors
