James McClean hits out at Declan Rice again as he accuses the England star of only playing sideways and backwards passes against Denmark after previously calling him ‘overrated’

  1. Rice is not the one to start attacks, he doesn’t have the incisive ball in his locker. Yes you may find an example x of him doing it but he isn’t meant to be doing that. I mean that one picture from the Fulham game has been burnt into my mind with how many people point it out.

He is a magician when it comes to defending as a midfielder, I only have Palhinha and Rodri alongside him in terms of that work in the league. He’s also very good at being the first man to receive the pass through the line. Carries it better than anyone else on Arsenal par maybe Ødegaard.

But he doesn’t play those balls through. It’s not him, at least not now. If Rice is in a double pivot with a player who can perform that pass to build up the play you won’t find many better midfields in the world.

It’s why I would choose to have Wharton/Gallagher to play the double pivot with him, so they can build on the teams strengths not their weaknesses. Trent would move to full back, left or right I’m not sure. Southgate’s ‘system’ is utter shite anyhow, wouldn’t expect him to change a thing. He plays Rice in the exact role that didn’t work for us.

  2. Hates England but can’t help watching and commenting. Obsessed.

  3. It’s kinda his job, and he’s good at it. It’s only a real problem if you don’t have someone else in the middle with better progressive passing ability. Hopefully Wharton is just that. His line breaking passes are chef’s kiss.

  4. Talking head pundits doing their job? So much copium in this thread lol

  5. Whatever what a biased and brainless person has to say about a player for attention.

  6. He’s just taking it thick because he switched allegiance from Ireland to England.

    Gurney wee cunt.

  7. Fuck him. This England team should be being built around players like Rice, Bellingham, Saka etc. Who gives a fuck what this clown has to say.

  8. I mean tbf Rice has been shit in the Euro’s so far, no where near the level of Rodri or Kroos for example.

It’s the right message, wrong messenger.

  9. Rice is not Wrexham material. The Arsenal goalkeeper is not bad though.

  10. It should be noted that his criticisms after this game weren’t super different than keane and nevilles post match. I understand that his criticisms before thr game were harsh as rice wasn’t even the topic of conversation, but in this situation it was probably a fair description of his performance

  11. He’s always been overrated… he was never worth 100m he’s a good player for a very specific role. Not a great player that can fill a number of roles.

  12. I swear about half of news articles use click bait titles like this now.

  13. I don’t think Rice has been great but McCleans argument seems to be he expects Rice to do Kroos and Rodri things because he plays the same position as them and cost £100m. Rice’s career up to date has been a player who protects the back four and puts out fire. Sure we’ve started to try and expand his game but that’s primarily what he’s been. He’s never been Rodri who is a complete player period, and he has absolutely never been on the profile of Kroos whatsoever.

This is essentially moaning at Haaland for not taking the ball on of the half turn and dribbling past multiple players like Theirry Henry did.

  14. Hey, if that’s where the England players are then so be it. Better than passing to no one or the opposition like other players

  15. I’m sure Declan Rice has a lot to say about James McClean too

  16. As a blues fan I have mixed feelings about Rice, but calling him overrated is unfair. He’s been consistent with his performances and most people knows how he plays. No one expects that killer pass from him and if he does good on him. He plays more like a DM but also somewhat good with the ball.

  17. Oh no!

Rice isn’t as good as 18 times cl and world cup winner toni kroos, what are we going to do?

I mean, literally nobody is, like, but that’s besides the point hahahaha

    Muppet

  18. See all the folks making excuses for Rice here 😂. Hype of Rodri, capability of ~McTonimay.

  19. Don’t necessarily agree with what he’s saying but there have been other pundits saying shit yet the Daily Fail are taking this and running with it specifically on mcclean🤔

  20. All this picking on the players while ignoring that the fact so many don’t know what role they’re playing coming from the COACHES. Foden, Rice, Trent, Kane – anyone you want, the problem is the system and the coaches.

  21. Hmm this wouldn’t have anything to do with you being notoriously bitter and twisted about England would it, James? And Rice snubbing Ireland to play where he was born? Nah, couldn’t be.

For the record, I’m half Irish and know all about the troubles from my old man, but McClean still comes across as a bellend. Bitches about England at every opportunity but was happy to live here and take plenty of English £££.

  22. Well that’s not his role is it?

Drop Jude deeper, put Foden in the middle and play someone else on the wing.

  23. Incorrect but Declan Rice stunk it up a lot yesterday. As did all of them. He was just so negative in possession, very frustrating to watch.

  24. Rice has been as turd as the rest of England. But who the fuck is James Mclean?

  25. England are a literal sideshow whenever there’s a tournament, top of the group and you’d think they’d be bottom on negative gd

  26. As an old Man Utd fan, I often wished England played like Man Utd. It’s just my fucking luck that they choose this year to do exactly that.

  27. It’s definitely Declan and not Southgate. Rice is out there doing whatever he wants. Give me a break.

  28. Who can he pass to? We are so deep that everyone else is basically on top of him. Instead focus on how he is doing the job of both him and Trent in breaking up play. We need a left winger and a striker who makes runs as soon as our midfield get the ball. Then you will see more passing
