>A UK Labour government would not grant a second Scottish independence referendum in the event the SNP wins a majority of the seats in Scotland, Keir Starmer has said.
…
>The Labour leader also confirmed he would not lift the block on the Scottish Government’s controversial gender reforms.
…
>The policy was voted through by a majority of the Scottish Parliament, including Scottish Labour.
>But Starmer said: “No, there would be no change of position on that.
>“I think there’s a lot to learn about gender self-ID from the way in which it’s been dealt with here in Scotland, which is why we’ve got a different proposition in our manifesto.”
I like human rights and democracy, personally.
Making it so easy for me not to vote for Labour.
No different from the other tories then.
Normally I can’t wait to get out and vote Labour, have to admit to being a total Blairite with centre left views, but something has happened to me, my appetite for voting Labour has vanished. It all just seems so pointless now, replace the Tories with Tory light, and around the merry-go-round we go again with much “soul-searching” for the Tories, they then get back in again and the cycle repeats. It feels like an illusion of democracy getting to vote for one of two parties, and until some form of voting reform happens it will always be so.
What a surprise.
The SNP and ScotGov being firmly put in their place might be fine with a lot of folk who are exhausted with the whole argument. Or it might fire up a new determination to see independence, particularly if Labour turn out to be shite.
It could go either way in the next few years but I will say the SNP look totally out of ideas right now
Labour offering Scotland anything? This is just anti-self determination
I’m surprised at anyone being surprised
I don’t understand how the Schottish arm of this party can look at themselves. They voted for the gender bill, basically Sir K telling them to fuck up, Labour don’t give a shit what they
think is right for Scotland.
Nobody has been able to give me a decent answer for why changing it so it’s easier to change my birth certificate meant the UK government had to intervene and block the legislation for the first time since devolution. There is no good answer. The Tories just hate trans people and Kier is fine with us being flattened by another bus.
Mind the VOW said we would get devolved powers and the people that signed it are still politicians and now we have Westminster stopping us using our own already devolved powers.
Aye fuck the entire shower of pricks down there.
So what do the 1/3 of Labour voters in Scotland who support independence think? Will they consider another party on the 4th July?
Labour adopting the Tory stance, true to form. I’m really concerned that Labour are going to disappoint a great deal of people.
Know your place jocks
I think this will only benefit a time where a 2nd referendum happens.
They are going to have more time to fuck things up, more young people will become disillusioned with the UK and the older generation won’t be here anymore to upkeep traditional views on the benefit of the Union.
Scottish Labour supported the bill. But then kept very quiet while everyone demolished it. Which speaks volumes for their and the lib-dems “support”.
I have some choice words on behalf of Scottish trans people for Sir Kid Starver.
I can’t believe so many people don’t realise that labour is just the tories with a different paint job
The Union flag shaggers completely forget with how much contempt the Labour party talks about Scotland. Vote for this man at your peril. He’s no different than what Westminster spits out of its conveyor belt.
Starmer is determined to kill Labour off in Scotland too, it seems…
Cunt
i always find it weird that folk just seem to accept blatant opposition to democracy, like regardless of whether you agree with independence or not
> The Labour leader also confirmed he would not lift the block on the Scottish Government’s controversial gender reforms
Surely they mean the Scottish *Parliament’s* reforms? The bill was after all passed by parliament (not forced through by the government) by a majority of 86 to 39 votes.
Is Scotland a colony or a hostage. Discuss.
You have to wonder at descriptions of the union as “voluntary”. How is independence ever possible if it doesn’t matter how many people vote SNP?
Scotland can’t hold a referendum alone (even an advisory one) and no English party … either Tory or Labour … will approve one if they think the independence vote will win.
A marriage that can only be dissolved by consent of the dominant, abusive partner is a forced marriage. Full stop.
I don’t get how this is a sustainable position to take when 20% of your vote in Scotland will be coming from yes backers
tory bastard.
Again I ask what are the SNP going to do about independence?. Because for ten years they have asked and gotten a majority and then did SFA!.
🙃 wow
Well fuck you very much
No going back on the gender reform bill? So Keir is *not* doing a u-turn on something? That’s a first, surely?
