1. It’s great that Vietnam also realizes that Russia is the bottom.

2. Makes sense for them since they can’t expect Russia to do anything about China with their issues in the South China Sea. US foreign investment in Vietnam has increased a good amount in the last decade with trade between the two increasing like 400-500% in the last 10 or so years with it running around $140B in total trade a year. Vietnam’s total trade with Russia is a laughable $3.6B.

3. Yep. It makes total sense. Only surprising things are the beautiful timing – and the very clear and direct statements.

6. Had the US showed the good sense to force the French to liberate French Indochina after WW II, like the Brits did with their colonies, Vietnam would have been a rubber producing member of the free world and would have avoided a generation of bloodshed. Never too late to make amends.

7. Vietnam is learning from india. Play every side.

8. You can’t light both ends of the candle without getting burned.

9. Vietnam moved on from the “American War” decades ago. Massive investments from the west, especially South Korea, has done wonders for the country. Tourism from North America and Europe has been a boon.

   They will certainly play nice with Russia as they believe that “everyone is our friend”, but they will not put any western deals in jeopardy for a maniac Russian dwarf.
