  1. I know we are all supposed to be anti-Swift now but this seems pretty small of Ghrol.

“At least we are making real music” is what the local bar band tells themselves to compensate for their lack of crowd, not the goddamn Foo Fighters

  2. As if that, or good music in general, matters to Swifties. Most of her fans are in a generation that pays to see DJs.

  3. Two completely different types of music. Love foo fighters and don’t really like Taylor. It’s like saying Jimi Hendrix makes real music but Kendrick Lamar doesn’t. Different crowd.

But I will say, I miss bands and live music. It’s a really special feeling hearing all the instruments live and the power rather than just singing and dancing.

  4. I don’t think Dave is sharing that their rock n roll is real music compared to her poppy stuff. I think he is literally saying that they actually play and sing the music live. The videos I’ve seen where Swifts backing track is taken out, she goes long periods of time without singing a word. But I imagine her fans are more into the stage show, so that doesn’t really matter. Anyway, I don’t think Dave is really taking a shot at her.

  5. Let’s not forget that Dave was only playing around here.

  6. Considering what Swifties did to his daughter, he’s right to say that

  7. Sure but Taylor (and most pop performers) aren’t just “a band playing their music”. She’s a performance artist dancing intense choreography with elaborate staging to a fan base who expects more than just singing. I’d love to see Grohl do a 120 minute set in 6 inch stilletos, full dance-quality tights, and a leotard, memorize 120 minutes of complicated choreo and still have enough energy and talent to go on the next day.

    It’s apples and oranges.

  8. Of all people I feel like they must be misinterpreting him. He’s too nice to be dissing randoms

  9. I listened to this in context and folks – there’s no context necessary and people saying this was a bit are really reaching. Dave said a rare, shitty, sort of untrue thing.

The Foo Fighters are maybe the greatest live performance I’ve ever seen in terms of being all business and playing a tight set with nothing but bangers for way longer than most artists, but Swift should be celebrated. She stood up to the music industry, secured her bag, and has a ton of fans willing to pile into an arena every night she’s willing to perform. I don’t want to make a mountain over a mole hill from this relatively light jab, but Swift deserves a lot more credit than she gets, despite being maybe the most wealthy musician on earth.

  10. calling the top fighters “raw rock n roll music” is just wildly cringe to me tho

  11. Didn’t her fans harass his daughter to the point where she had to deactivate her account?

  12. Foos did 3-hour sets frequently back in the day, saw them do one in Philly on the Wasting Light tour. Must’ve done at least 2-3 cuts from each album so it really was their Eras show. Dave is joking but he’s more than earned the right to say it in whatever manner he wants

  13. The general problem with Taylor Swift isn’t her music or her concerts, it’s her fans. Absolutely insufferable.

  14. Dave has met Taylor and I doubt he has any animosity. Yay clickbait.

  15. Weirdly shitty thing from a guy who typically keeps it classy, and also… it’s not true? Of all people to pick on for not singing live, Taylor is not the one. She’s obviously singing live. I’m not saying she never takes a break on a chorus with a backing track in a three-hour stage show she performs back to back several nights a week; surely there is some vocal rest built into the show here and there. But like… there’s a mountain of videos showing her obviously singing live when either technical errors or her own error or something else (errant security guards, hello) interrupt the song. “Sapphire tears on MySpace”, for instance. Or even when she just changes up the vocal slightly. The Don’t Blame Me high note is easily distinguishable across dozens of different performances.

Just weird all around and unlike Dave. I won’t hold it against him. Love the guy. But definitely a weird boomery moment from an otherwise class act.

  16. How many *Swifties* Fans are there?

    vs

How many *Grohlies, Gouhlies, Growlies (oh no, that’s me)….*

(meant as sarcasm , humourous, funny. please do not come for me, my Car, my House. )

  17. I don’t think Dave is actually mocking. From everything I’ve heard he’s a really nice guy.

  18. That’s funny cause the Foo Fighters haven’t made any music worth listening to live since 1997.

  19. I like Dave Grohl but seriously dude, that was a dick move. Why the fuck do you care? Just support each other as artists. 🙄

  20. Oh please, this is so clickbait he was probably just poking fun, nothing inherently mean. It’s Dave Grohl for God’s sake, he’s joking.

  21. Is this the start of a war between TaySway and DayGro?

  22. He had nothing but praise for her in an interview I saw – she played Best of You on piano so he could sing it at Paul McCartney’s party. In any case, I saw Taylor yesterday and she has a live band playing on at least half the songs. Saw Foos on the Concrete and Gold Tour (and a few times before that). They were great too.

  23. Someone mentioned her cult went after Dave’s daughter over a post about hypocritical billionaires flying jets or something so maybe that’s true

  24. I expect different things from these two people live and I’m a fan of both. Nothingburger…bored “writer” trying to stir shit up for engagement.

  25. He’s not wrong: They play live. She does not. End of discussion. It’s a joke but there’s no rebuttal to it because it’s true.

  26. Why are they trying to fight Foo?
Are they trying to look like Foo ls?

  27. That’s so fucking disappointing. Taylor Swift is a lot of things, but she sings live and has a live band. Wtf Dave

  28. Journalism is dead, ladies and gentlemen, and it has been for quite awhile now.

  29. Too bad Dave Grohl’s band plays the most bland generic prog rock imaginable.

  30. Why would this be a jab at Taylor? She actually plays live. She’s a very good guitarist and her band is amazing. I know it’s cool to hate on Taylor but I don’t think this is about her. She has a very good band that plays live. The media needs to stop stirring shit. They know people believe everything they read and they don’t go past the headline.

  31. Nah this is just rude. This is something that no performer wants to be accused of. If they are friends and he was just messing around, I imagine they probably arent friends anymore after this.
