London to lose another cinema after Picturehouse announcement

  1. Looks like everyone’s gonna have to go elsewhere oh well!

  2. That’s disappointing, I’ve been there a few times even though it’s not the closest Picturehouse to me, it was a nice cinema but usually pretty empty, which was the main reason I’d travel there… TBH I’m surprised it lasted this long.

  3. Aw that’s a bummer but also not very surprising. Cinemas are slowly going the way of video rental stores. There’s just no point in going to a cinema anymore considering everything is on streaming so soon and cinemas are so expensive. Plus everyone has lost their goddamn cinema etiquette since Covid. Can’t watch anything without complete idiots talking over it or on their phone

Once you invest in a good tv and sound system, it’s a no brainer to just wait a few weeks

  4. The one I went to for Furiosa was really bad. I think it was the Ritz.

  5. Not surprising it never seemed busy. I went to see one of the Spiderman movies in the opening week during an evening showing and it was just me and a friend. This was their largest screen.

  6. Good riddance IMO. Screens were always tiny compared to Vue (especially Vue out of central), seats were *incredibly* cramped in everyone from Crouch End to Stratford to Central, tickets were more expensive and worst of all, they don’t sell hotdogs.

  7. I remember the first time it closed down, just before Covid.

I watched Akira; had the main screen to myself. It was an awesome experience. I was surprised it re-opened at all, post pandemic. And while it’s still sad, I’m glad it had a second chance.
