I’m the parent of a trans daughter. There’s nothing conservative about blocking her care. Politicians should stop trying to impose personal beliefs as statewide mandates that harm children and interfere with the private, individualized medical decisions of families.

All medical decisions need to be between a patient and their care team.
They don’t want the government involved in health care until it includes their religious bigotry.
The article states they were a registered republican for decades. This is what they supported and voted for, why are they suddenly upset ? Only because now it’s hurting someone they love?

This is the correct take. Whether or not you “approve” or “understand” the trans experience, it is fundamentally not up to you to decide. It is up to doctors and the individuals and we should leave it that way.

Politics and medical care should be completely separated. What does the government have to do with medical care or procedures?
I genuinely don’t understand why being transgender is so awful to some people or that it even affects them. Let’s all just mind our own business and let people live however they feel happiest.

Been pounding the table on this point for as long as I can remember. If you’re really for individual freedom and small government, like Republicans say they are, then medical decisions should be made between an individual and their doctor. My medical decisions should never be made by some politician, ever.
Tbh, I think it is fundamentally conservative to repress others’ identities for the gain of the “in-group.” That’s the game they’ve always been playing since at least the last 80 years or so
For a party that’s “anti-groomer” and “anti-pedophile” they sure do love thinking about other people’s kids a lot.
The conservative push against trans healthcare is based on nothing more than the fear they harbour and the control they covet.
If they actually cared about children, they’d be pushing for reducing the leading cause of death in children, but that would mean gun reform and they can’t have that. They’d climb over a mountain of dead children to stop gun reform.
It’s about parental rights until those rights goes against their beliefs. It was never about children. It has always been about the hatred of a group of people.
I have never heard a good religious argument or medical argument for the conservative side of this. God is rubber stamping all of these births of babies with missing organs and diseases and heartbreaking deformities, but sexual ambiguity is out of line? Why? Because it’s embarrassing? And dying in abject pain for no reason isn’t?
And there are all of these documented cases of hermaphrodites, people being born with CAID – which makes a man appear to be a woman, and arguably actually be a woman – and other sexual ambiguities, which are not in dispute, but which are just objective reality.
The conservative argument against trans care has all of the legitimacy of a small child throwing a tantrum in a grocery store over candy.
I’m begging you all to vote this November. It can be so much worse for us and conservatives are chomping at the bit to make it so. We just want to live and be ourselves.

The so-called “conservatives” drive up the budget deficit with high spending and tax-cuts for the rich, while striving for government restrictions on our freedoms. Anyone else old enough to remember GOP argument that government involvement in healthcare was a bad idea? They really got angry about it in Obama’s first term about some sort of legislation.
I thought America was the land of the free? Like I dislike that conservatives promote and constantly talk about the constitution and freedom, but like don’t like let people do what they want.
Who cares what someone else does with their body!?!?
I know they want to impose their beliefs on people but what does that make us then? Nazis? Those guys also imposed their ideals onto people.
I just ask, what is the point? What does that accomplish? Conservatives are imposing all these bans and putting blame onto transgender folks and other already struggling minority groups. Instead of focusing all this time and energy towards hate and discrimination….why not improve people’s lives for once in history. Thats not what conservatives do, they are conserving power and a status quo.

People saying “Theres nothing conservative about ____ thing GOP does” need to wake up and realize its never coming back and even though they are technically right, the GOP does not give a crap.
It’s not even just “blocking her care”. Republicans are actively forcing gender identity and at times sexual reassignment surgery with the force of the government and the tax payers money against the will of an individual. Any time they legislate against the will of a transgender person’s identity or physical characteristics they are *forcing* their own gender and sexual preferences on to that person, that’s some real Nazi concentration level of control over another human being. It’s utterly disgusting.
Conservatism is about a strict social hierarchy, and in the US that hierarchy puts LGBTQ+ people near the bottom.
So yes, it’s Conservative to block people’s health care. Same with blocking abortions.

Its crazy how vile some are, my sister would be so activated and fly into a rage about trans people. Its so bizarre. She has a kid and everything and thats what she is worried and stressed about and spends her time thinking about, trans people.
Last week at Pride a kid came to my tent and I asked her if she ever thought about playing Roller Derby? She looked at me, frowned and nervously said “Look at me I can’t play sports” and for a second I paused because I couldn’t understand why this fit kid couldn’t play sports and then it hit me. She thought she couldn’t play because she’s Trans. Broke my fucking heart. I assured her she could play Roller Derby if she wanted. I hope to hell she comes to our new skater night.

There’s nothing per se ‘good’ about conservative such that anyone needs to worry if something is or isn’t.
Republicans need an enemy to rally their voters. They will always create one, whether it’s trans people or caravans or gay marriage… They always will. And if there’s a convenient minority that weirds out the voting base, all the better. If a few people die, they don’t care.
