  1. While the West contemplates going for a 4-day work week, Greece makes a different choice.

  2. a bit clickbaity title.

Previously, overtime was mainly uncompensated but still happened. Now it is regulated to have up to 8 hours per week with 140% salary for that time.

Can it cause more 6 day workweeks? Sure. Is it mandatory? Nope

  3. I am already overworking with 10h shifts plus weekends. I am afraid that companies will exploit this new law uncontrollably because the Greek public service that inspects working conditions on workforce is incompetent, understaffed and easily corrupted.

  4. Even if it’s not mandatory it shows the lengths the current government and businesses will go to in order to not pay better wages, have better working hours and just treat workers like humans and not slaves. Reminder that last summer the government made a contract to bring in workers from 3rd world countries to fill in positions that Greeks wouldn’t work at because of the shit conditions. Ironic since we take all these measures to keep immigrants out but then the government pays them and flies them in legally

  5. Alright – where are all the Greeks at to explain this to everyone?

  6. Why not 7? They could even extend a week to 8 days and say you still got 1 day off

  7. Genuine question. I’ve heard this sort of demeaning meme, about Mediterranean Europe, that it’s culturally normal to have a long break during the day (like Spanish siesta). Which, to me, sounds like a measuring the skull way to say that people there slack on a job.

It sounds to me like in this case it doesn’t add up with this toxic work measure.

How would Greeks assess their work culture? Do you work 40 hours a week?

  8. Ah yes, bring tens of thousands of immigrants from the middle east on a government plan to use them as slaves and reduce the native’s salary and also increase the legal working days to 6.

Anyone who says that the 6 day work is not mandatory, is out of touch with the reality of the Greece work environment. Especially in service/tourism, 7/7 is often the standard.
