Russian advances on the north-eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv appear to have stalled, as freshly armed Ukrainian troops push back. Putin’s forces have only managed to claim a small area on the outskirts of Vovchans’k, 70 kilometres from Kharkiv, since Moscow launched a surprise offensive in the region to take advantage of Ukraine’s munition shortages. Defiant citizens of Kharkiv have moved many activities underground, with new schools built entirely underground.
