Southgate has dined out on getting ridiculously favourable tournament draws. That world cup semi, we didnt beat a team of note. Lost to Belgium twice, scraped past Colombia on penalties and got beaten by a lower ranked team in the semis after trying to hold out after going one nil up. Looks like he’s going to do it again. Get drawn in the easiest group, stink the place out with 2 goals in three games and somehow manage to finish on top with all the big hitters in the other side of the draw, l

Fantastic substitution after 89 minutes , really gave the player time to leave his mark on the game! Southgate should be packed onto a plane headed for Siberia before the next game !

Bellingham was either tired, un-arsed, or both tonight. But Palmer seemed like he was going to create a lot when he came on. Can’t Southgate try Gordon and Palmer on the wings and stick Jude and Phil in the middle? We can’t play any worse… 🤦♂️
I can’t sum it up in 1 word but I will say that during this tournament, England have played with no passion, no urgency, terrible sloppy passing, moving the ball across the back dangerously in front of goal, given away possession after passing sideways, backwards and back to pickFord , we have no one running into space to create gaps, no one running and asking for the ball, only Saka who looks like he is capable of creating an opportunity but gets substituted for being positive. We look tired and bored, we are boring to watch, we haven’t created a goal from open play that wasn’t a fluke, no pushing up to create problems for the opposition, no quick thinking players who can put a ball over the top route 1 style and catch the opposition flat footed. We have no ideas, no guile, no passion and no pride.
We are a boring Conservative team to scared to try anything new. We are Gareth Southgate.

It wasn’t fun or exciting to watch but they looked in control, comfortable and unlikely to throw the game away. In knockout matches the opponents will mostly open up a bit more than that and hopefully we can see more of a creative spark. They do need a plan B for these situations, and I really think they should have started just pinging crosses into the box.
