I’ve been pursuing citizenship via my grandfather who came to Australia at some point before 1968. He later returned to Croatia at some point 20-30 years later.
Supposedly I can only claim descent if the ancestor is a Croatian emigrant. Which he supposedly isn’t because he returned to Croatia?? I feel I must be missing something. This seems like it leaves me dead in the water.. I’ve included sources below.
Excerpt from link 1:
“To qualify to apply based on descent, you must have a Croatian ancestor that is connected to you in a straight line that permanently left Croatia to move abroad. This can be a parent, grandparent, great grandparent, and so on, as long as they are considered to be a Croatian emigrant.
If they returned to Croatia or they never left, then they are not considered an emigrant, in which case Article 11 does not apply. As of January 1, 2020, there is no limit to how many generations you go back as long as you can prove the connection and their emigration abroad.”

I don’t see how his return to Croatia is relevant in this story. He was Croat, he came to Australia, had a family there I presume. So you are a Croatian descent. If he has gone to Malaysia in 20 years would you be of Malaysian descent? Anyway, try to ask around in the nearest Croatian embassy. They will probably ask you for a lot more information, but Croatia is pretty OK in giving out our citizenship to the people that can prove their lineage.
How old are you? Does your father/mother have croatian citizenship? Do you have any documents where you said you are Croatian?
son, make an application and write you plan to maybe start a small business, it’s worth a try
