4. A librarian finds me and tells me you have to hear this. The library was playing records with headphones. something they did in the late 1900’s
   I stood at the table. The Librarian put the big squishy headphones on my head.

   Crackle Crackle and then pop of a conga drum echo, then acoustic guitar synthesize chords that dropped from the ceiling to your feet. I sway.

   Then this voice that started in your mind but bounced to your heart. I had never heard a voice like this. It swirled around you for no reason then power in the middle of a line. What who why?

   By the chorus, I was bawling so hard I had snot it was not cute. I didn’t know i was so deeply moved, i didn’t know i was crying so hard. I didn’t know i was saying What, Who, out loud between sobs.

   That is how I first heard Cyndi Lauper in a public library because a librarian, thought I would want to listen to a .45 the song was “True Colors” .

   I still keep a library card.
