  1. >the role is “outdated” and does not effectively serve the interests of Welsh people.

I could see an argument being made that the role does more damage than good, but I’d still think that calling for the role to be updated instead of removed altogether would be a more popular opinion and harder for the opposition to argue against.

  2. You just know that if it was the Tories advocating getting rid of the Secretary of State for Wales, then Plaid would be calling it a constitutional disgrace that Wales was being abandoned in this way, and if there was no SoS for Wales, they would be campaigning to have one.

  3. Since the role of SoS has now been altered from acting in the interests of Wales  to a more hostile one, there are two options: either abolish the post or have the WG have a say in choosing who gets it.

  4. I find the politics of “I don’t like how this operates in its current form. Therefore, get rid of it” a very frustrating one. It feels so short sighted and reactionary.

  5. Without a Secretary of State for Wales, there won’t be a specific voice for Wales in the UK cabinet. Wales is overlooked by Westminster as it is. The position is definitely needed, but the role could be developed to be more relevant.

  6. I’d rather abolish the WG.

By any metric WG are behind even the London Muppets.

Welsh people are suffering from worse services just so Cardiff civil servants can get a fat paycheck.
