So… can Germans pick up another nationality now without having to sacrifice their German citizenship?

1. Yes, from a German point of view they can do that. The rest depends on whatever country you want to naturalize in.

2. No, that was never an issue. You had the right to get your German citizenship because of parents or whatever so they cannot remove it. You can get extra ones. 

   BUT you would not get a German one if you had another citizenship. That changed.
