Most Americans don’t realize Fiat will be 125 yrs old next year. I never will forget the Romanian guy I met that was a defected communist that got a Fiat back in the day because it was so much higher quality than the Russian cars.
Italian roulette?
This is such a cool picture!
This is one of the few examples of futurism architecture that we have (not to confuse with fascist architecture)
True story, HR stoppd us from putting in a basketball hoop, because someone might get hurt.
That building seems HUGE for a factory of that time.
Employee: “Let’s race cars on the room!”
1923 OH&S: “That’s a great idea!”
There’s actually a hotel in the building now, you can still acces the rooftrack. On a bright day you’re even able to see the Alps from there. Would recommend staying there when visiting Turin 🙂
Th building is called lingotto, and the roof top was meant as test track:
>Construction of the building started in 1916 and it was inaugurated in 1923. The design by the young architect Giacomo Matté-Trucco, was unusual in that it had five floors, with raw materials going in at the ground floor, and cars built on a line that went up through the building. Finished cars emerged at rooftop level to go onto the test track.
Imagine your office being on the top floor as there are literal race cars zooming by
