  2. It’s still quid-pro-quo. “I’ll secure you a 1.1M contract. After I give you this, I want 1% in return after it’s done”. That’s all it takes, and it’s now called gratuity and not a bribe. Because you can’t prove the agreement occurred before or after, it’s a bribe.

    I guess it’s ok to make a government official squirm before giving them a “gratuity” rather than agreeing to a “gratuity” in advance.

  13. This ruling of course *can’t* have anything to do with the justified public perception that certain Supreme Court justices have taken much more, with much more obvious conflicts of interest. Of course not.

  14. So instead of the SCOTUS repenting and fitting their behavior to the existing standards against corruption, the court has rewritten the standards for all levels of government to fit their “Justice For Sale, Democracy For Lease”.

    If you hope this court will make certain a spy and insurrectionist will be tried for his crimes, you better get out your checkbook.

    BTW, a talking head pointed out that this decision is why Trump is pushing for no taxes on tips. You receive a gratuity for a construction contract? It doesn’t go on your taxes.

  15. So, if I’m a government official, doing my day to day job… and lets say I hire a service provider or contractor to work for my office in some capacity… if that contractor was just tickled pink, with the job I let them do, they can just… drop $25k cash on my desk?
    With a cookie bouquet and a nice note?
    “Thanks for all that great work you let us do!”

    That’s just okay?
    Huh. 
    Weird. 

    Seems, exactly like what bribing someone is. 
    But silly me, I’m no Supreme Court Justice. I must be missing something.
