All for the ability to withdraw labour but this seems a bit nonsensical surely you’d wait a week and discuss with the new government? This really is a case of only hurting the patients as far as I can see?
Edit: love the down votes but from the article:
The NHS Confederation said striking during the election campaign, when none of the political parties was in a position to resolve the dispute, was a “bitter pill to swallow”.
The two sides had agreed to independent arbitration, in May – but that was put on hold when the election was called. And the union then called the strike.
This doesn’t put the union in the best light and it simply makes no sense at all? Arbitration was on the way, then a surprise election date announced so they’ve put it on hold until after the election given it’s a government issue unlike private business. They’d have to wait two weeks…
Do your thing. The Government need to be paying Doctors their market value, not what they think they are worth, or as little as they can get away with.
Yes, theses strikes hurt in the short term but if a fair, market based pay deal isn’t resolved, our Doctors will just emigrate.
For all the people who cannot understand why doctors are striking during an election: virtually every single part of the public sector has been on strike over the past couple of years, and there’s only 1 group whose pay both major political parties are talking about days before election day. It’s doing exactly what it’s supposed to.
can the government just pay them a decent wage already????
Don’t worry, Kier Starmers going to *checks notes
Enter the room, and ask them nicely to get o….
*Pete is this really what i say here?*
