Spotted on the Thames. My partner and I are so curious about its purpose. My theory is it’s a got a big magnet for collecting rubbish from the river. Can anyone help?

  1. Its either a floating crane or a floating digger

to do either crane or digger things but on the water

  2. It’s literally exactly what it looks like – a barge with an excavator on it

  3. It’s definitely not an excavator, it definitely is a crane, a mobile one for use on water, also, it’s not big enough, ten minutes near gravesend pulling out trollys and it’ll be full.

  4. It’s a tug boat. SWS Endurance. The excavator isn’t for dredging, it’s for lifting.

  5. The river gets silted up and eventually cause blockages if nothing is done. This is a dredger to clear out sand and other rubbish from the river bed.

  6. Your theory was rather close, as others said it’s most likely a dredger which they use to clear river beds that have become full of crap and vegetation. Not used as often these days because it cost money and it’s not exactly friendly to the rivers ecosystem, as it’s quite a brute way of clearing up.

  7. What’s written on the side there? Trotter and sons?

  8. It’s a multicat – lots of them around the U.K. for coastal work. Basically a jack of all trades multi purpose workboat.

  9. Just a crane, even with the extender out it won’t have enough reach to be a dredger. And on a boat that small, where does it put the stuff it dredges?

  10. Multi purpose work boar 💪 loads of them on river Medway

  11. They need to dredge rivers to make more room for the water companies to dump shit in.

  12. for pulling cars that have murder victims in them out of the river.
