  1. Not surprised. Utter scumbag behaviour from whoever called in that bomb threat.

  2. > Gardaí are now investigating the hoax and are hopeful of identifying the perpetrator.

    Good.

  3. Good

Imagine any other world leader of a well known country without armed protection – it just doesn’t exist

The Ireland of 2024 isn’t the same as the Ireland of five years ago

  4. I hope this gets nipped in the bud fairly sharpish.
One of the best things about Ireland is that our politicians are largely free to wander about anywhere in the country and not be abused. Seeing them down the pub, or the local shop doing their shopping is great. We do not want to be reaching the stage were we need security for our politicans.

  5. Can they also deploy armed gardai to protect the pride disco?

  6. Tells you all you need to know. Scumbags threatening a woman and young children.

  7. The far right nutjobs making life harder for everyone again. A blight on the country. Fueled by Russian/Chinese social media bots/fake actors and emboldened by Trump.

  8. Can disagree with him till the cows come home if you want but this is utterly cowardly behaviour and not what this democracy (while flawed at times) is about

  9. Far right making the country more and more dangerous. Time to crack down on these people once and for all.

  10. I understand the revulsion at the thought of political violence and threats to politician’s families. But a child can get their hands on a phone and make such a threat. This scare requires *very* little effort, which means it can also be replicated easily. Is everyone who receives such a threat going to be put under armed guard?

A man in Tipperary threatened three TDs, Martin Kenny (SF), David Stanton (FG), and Seamus Healy (Ind). His prosecution was halted the other day due to a procedural error in relation a search warrant:

Should these three TDs be under armed guard?

In Martin Kenny’s case someone actually drove a car at his house and damaged it – he ended up having to move home due to the threats received after speaking out in support of asylum seekers. In his case, the threats have become real.

  11. This is rubbish, they’re trying to distract from the passing of the migration pact last night. This is all just to give Harris a sympathy vote

  12. Ah, so they can protect the Taoiseach but not a children’s school party. 🤦‍♂️

  13. Sad that it’s come to this but he does need protection. Our politicians should be able to go about their lives without fear.

The utter scumbag who mad the threat should be ashamed of themselves.

  14. Is there now a real need to have an offical home like Downing street for our government leadership?

  15. What sort of soft skulled morons are living in Wicklow exactly? Between the brave lads threatening a fucking youth service and kids disco, and now this.

  16. We put our inconsequential presidents into a walled mansion and taoisigh live at home.

  17. They have cultivated a larger class division through their policies and lack there of. There is already a massive social divide between us, the security that’s on the way is just going to be the visible representation.

  18. He should just move into the Stewards lodge in the phoenix park.

  19. This American/British-esque level of political toxicity needs to fuck off.

We got through Dev, Haughey and Bertie without it, why start now?
