Crazy in this day and age 26 million people can still live in what is essentially a comically oppressive dystopian cult, so detached from reality, only 50km away from one of the most modern, rich and westernized metropolises. Watching from afar and knowing little, I wonder how long this can continue on for, and why we simultaneously totally aren’t ok with it but also completely tied down by the threats of a single man holding an entire country to a lifetime of literal hell under the threat of nuclear war.

19. The source is unnamed and not verifiable. I don’t doubt that NK executes prisoners but I find it highly unlikely that they would do it for just listening to k-pop. The title is sensationalism and made to sell more subsciptions. That said, NK is very closed up country for us westerners and it would be beneficial to let journalists in and report more thruthfully.

24. Americans will believe literally anything they hear about North Korea. Y’all will believe that it’s simultaneously illegal to have the same haircut as Kim Jong Un and illegal to nor have the same haircut as Kim Jong Un.

    The fact that so many people read this headline and just believe it despite the fact that we all know that K pop exists in North Korea, and in fact it was well documented that Kim Jong Un was dating a k pop singer a few years ago.
