I grew up here, I know everything is expensive, but there needs to be a cheaper and easier way to get tested for STDs! Krankenkasse only covers when you have symptoms while some STDs don‘t show until way too long.

  1. Also don’t go to donate your blood while lying on the questionnaire given, that’s the best way to kill the recipient and get you to jail

  2. Yes. Drive accross the border to a lab in France. The whole thing with costs about 80 euros max. Presumably Italy or Germany would be similar depending on where you are.

  3. Sexual health is not a very conservative safe topic, so that won’t happen for another decade, if ever.

Plus, health insurance companies are getting noticeably more Americanised, especially when it comes to refusing to cover stuff that they really really should.

Had a minor surgery recently and they said that the painkillers prescribed “weren’t necessary”.

  4. As everthing else in Switzerland – if you don’t have the money, don’t dabble in the luxury activity. This goes for everything from driving to skiing to sex. Pay to play. xD

Besides I’m sure insurance companies want to limit cost risk exposure in a country where an 18 yr old Romanian or Hungarian prostitute is the same price and availability as a nice dinner at a restaurant.

Think of your STI test costs as Nebenkosten.

  5. Just try joining military for a free screening. Only costs you about 3 days and maybe 180 more if you actually have to go

  6. There are many places for free or reduced testing. Also depending on your Health insurance they will or will not pay due to set franchise. Bern for example is cheaper than Zürich. Just put tinder away, and talk to your doctor. If he/she/they thinks it’s necessary then your insurance will cover it if your franchise isnt that high.

  7. Yeah imagine young people or vulnerable don’t get checked because of the money. I’m swiss-german and in Germany you can get tested free and anonymous in every city’s health department. Should be the same.

  8. Go to your general doctor, I did s screening (blood and urine) a year ago and the whole thing, testing for all possible common STIs cost me like 130.- I don’t know what kind of list you have there but it’s waaay overpriced

  9. You get a free check when they test you for military Tauglichkeit.

Edit: I think one check should be free for everyone.

  10. The entire health system is pretty messed up.
Why do we have to pay 300-500 fr. every month PLUS franchise costs of 300-2500 fr., PLUS another 700 fr. of self participation?

And then there are tests they are just not willing to cover because, what? 😒

  11. The health insurance company refuses to pay for cheap treatments to stop smoking! But pays tens of thousands of francs to treat the consequences of smoking!

Same thing for many other things…

  12. According to my rheumatologist, Swiss health insurance companies regard having sex as a lifestyle choice.

Due to taking meds that could cause severe birth defects if I was to get pregnant and have a baby, my doctor insisted I go on birth control. Was already pissed off as an infertile woman with an unfulfilled wish to have children. Finding out that the health insurance wouldn’t pay for the birth control pills I was taking purely for medical reasons, really added insult to injury.

  13. When are we going to admit that the health system in general (this, dentistry, deductables) has turned into capitalistic shit? The delusion is mind boggling.

  14. Maybe I’ve missed the point here but whenever I went to a doctor, saying that I had unprotected sex and wanted a screening they just arranged it and it was covered by my health insurence but needless to say that there is still the deductible. So using condoms appears cheap 🤔

  15. They seem to like patients not healthy persons 😝
40% of elected MPs in the national assembly are linked to healthcare last time I checked. It‘s insane!

  16. Full test set is 150.-, how cheap do you expect people to work for that? We don’t want german dumping pay here.

  17. It’s stupid, also charging for PREP after a risk sexual encounter. I understand not wanting to incentivise people to take unnecessary risks, but by charging upwards of 600 francs for one single treatment, you may end up with a patient who couldn’t afford the treatment and for whom the system will end up having to foot a massive bill forever, not withstanding the risk on other people for whom the same thing might happen afterwards.

STD testing should be completely free, it is an investment by the health insurances and not an expense
