79 years ago, the Battle of Stalingrad was won by the Red Army. The Wehrmacht was beaten on the Volga by Soviet tactics and willpower. The Soviet and Russian people proved themselves to be unconquerable. It was our Verdun, and they did not pass.

  1. The battle of Stalingrad was a great battle that proved crucial in defeating the Nazis, there’s no denying that. However the Soviet Union didn’t “liberate” Europe from Nazi Germany, they just changed one form of tyranny for another. Stalin and Hitler were both horrific dictators and Khrushchev was also pretty horrible. I’m glad that the era of communism and Nazism has come to an end in Europe.

  2. Thanks for the reference to WW1. Stalingrad was the main battle, and it changed the turning point of the war against nazism. The battle was brutal and the price paid was astronomical.

  3. This was the moment when civilisation was saved, a heroic achievement of world-historic importance. Their sacrifice will not be forgotten.
