I usually stay at the Scandic Hotel Hell once a year. Last year, the price for a room per day was around 1400kr, but this year it has suddenly jumped to 2800kr for the same size of room. However, I found some stains on the bedsheet and one brown stain on the toilet seat (!!!).

Anyway, what I would like to discuss is the tipping culture in Norway. As I mentioned in another similar post, I was shocked to see that the hotel restaurant now adopts an American style, presenting the option to tip as the first page on the payment terminal screen. I believe that being a waiter in Norway, which has very different wage standards from the USA, should not lead to adopting this tipping culture. Instead, I wish we could learn more from Japan and Korea, where there is no tipping culture in restaurants.

  1. They might be praying on turists who’s not familiar with the tipping culture. You’re not expected to tip.
