Don’t you be going sniffing around in the hills in Connemara! Somethings brewing.
No it couldn’t.
Connemara would still be connemara. It doesn’t want or need to be Yellowstone.
Do you watch Yellowstone by any chance?
Can’t wait for the broody Western starring Caoimhín O’Cosnaigh on TG4.
I think we should sink the Meaths and make Athlone the world’s largest container port
You don’t really need to go full hog disrupting everyone and making the whole area a national park, all you need are incentives for farmers to grow native trees on their land which if worth it they will gladly do, it’s essentially money for nothing.
This bloke is a trainee anaesthetist
He may be passionate or massively interested in this type area, but has zero experience or expert in it…….it’s a bit like getting traffic management advise off a hedgehog
‘Connemara might be visually stunning but it’s an ecological dead zone’
It’s not a dead zone. It’s not teaming with life but that’s because it’s an acidic upland environment. Wolves won’t change that.

I personally think this could ve done for basically massive part a massive part of Connacht. You could probably turn Conamara to Partaigh Co Mayo up to Néifinn into one national park. You could probably put it across to Cloonfad and the whole way through Roscommon to Lough Key Forest Park and the surrounding forests of Roscommon. I don’t know how you could include Lietrim and Sligo, but I’m sure you could in some way.
Plant all non bog with native trees and allow some parts to remain like a meadow. Native cattle breeds like Irish Maoil, Bó Riabhach, Droimeann, Kerry, and Dexter could even fill a “bison” or wild cow niche.
This would create habitat for our insane deer population and allow nature to have a space in Ireland again instead of fighting with farmers for space on land or being pushed into people gardens.
We have the space to make a Yellowstone in Ireland. We just need to fill it. All this habitat could eventually male way for the reintroduction of the Eurasian Lynx or European Grey Wolf
The only thing is, the Irish speakers. Conamara is one of the last strongholds of Gaelic culture. So you would have to bring some form of employment to the area with the rewinding effort, and this could be done by making the locals park rangers. Same for the rest of the people in counties of this hypothetical Connacht National Park.
The American national parks only exist because they killed or drove out all the people who’d previously been living in them. I suspect that will probably be unpalatable here, and the vague suggestions of other jobs in this article mightn’t go down well with the people who actually live where this new park would be.
You do realise the people of the west are entitled to their own lives & areas too & don’t exist for your entertainment & tourism surely?
It will make it erupt some day and kill us all?
>it could be our Yellowstone
Or Hell…
I think we should turn Dublin into a national park.
We could get a load of those signs put up to not feed the animals.
