    But in response to a question from JNS at a press briefing the day of the report’s release, Arif Husain, chief economist and director of analysis, planning and performance at the World Food Programme, admitted that none of the three benchmarks is being met. 

    Husain told JNS on Tuesday that there are no figures available currently about deaths by starvation in Gaza. 

    “It’s not even a matter of being available. I don’t think that they are even collected,” Husain told JNS.

    Even the Hamas-run Gazan health ministry has only claimed that 32 people died of starvation in March and one in April.

    Asked why the IPC keeps making famine assessments and projections without meeting its data standards, Husain said classification wasn’t relevant.

    “Whether it is classified as a famine or not—is declared as a famine or not—is not the point,” Husain told JNS. “It is not enough to say, ‘Okay, yeah, there is a famine, now that’s that.’ We must act and continue to act to avert a famine.”

  3. It’s sad when the UN has to “admit” that the shit they’ve been pushing for months have no basis.

    If they want to talk about the material conditions in Gaza and how to help civilians, that’s fine, but making things up just to stir shit up only detracts from the legitimacy of the UN as an organization.

  18. I fear that the damage is already done. You see people in the French political arena cheering for Gaza and raising flags in the buildings/meetings. And that is a country that also has security issues from their Muslim population. Showing them the videos of the attack was probably too late after they became entrenched in their side.

  19. And yet we have the chief prosecutor of the ICC looking to issue arrest warrants on Israeli Officials for ” intentional starvation as weapon of war”? This shows the intentional stitch-up when a prosecutor uses evidence that is not reliable at best and non-existent at worse. I suspect the rest of his evidence is also dodgy and unverified and he needs to be sacked.

  24. Wow…so they just stoked flames about something that doesn’t have any fact to support it while people are actually experiencing famine in other parts of the world. The world should never forgive them for how they have behaved, like an organization farming clicks and patting egos, rather than doing their jobs and adequately weighing where the attention and resources need to be directed based on FACTUAL findings and recommendations

  28. Every other week there’s a new headline saying gaza is on the brink of famine… I remember back in the day when a country was on the brink of famine, there was a famine with evidence pretty soon after
