  1. And Trump winning the Presidency would lead to years of fascist repression. I’ll take a few chaotic weeks thanks.

  2. as opposed to decades of chaos when he loses the election? rip the band-aid off and let’s win the election

  3. Homeboy looked like a Halloween on November 5th

  4. The chaos would lead to Trump winning, because we can’t Dems can’t get our shit together. 1968 is a pretty good example of that

  5. The sooner he drops out the less chaos there will be.

    Wishful thinking.

  6. We wouldn’t want to hurt his ego or risk your campaign jobs!

  7. Why is Biden’s deputy campaign manager so abrasive and dismissive? Why would he call those concerned about this issue a “bedwetting brigade” when likely some of those same people receiving the email are uneasy? It’s a very condescending email if you’re trying to instill confidence in donors, and it doesn’t even address the issue at hand over Biden’s age or health.

  8. Trump winning last time got us three young, conservative Supreme Court justices and an imbecile leading us through a once in a lifetime crisis. Rip that band aid off; I think we can take it.

  9. They’re not wrong. But it’s a legitimate debate to have right now. The question isn’t whether switching candidates will cause chaos or not. The question is whether a new candidate with all the accompanying chaos gives us a better chance to beat Trump than riding with Biden without said chaos. I personally lean towards Biden and feel part of the debate panic is overblown and premature, but we’d be foolish not to have this discussion. The one silver lining that came out of this debate was that it was scheduled early enough to give us the luxury to consider both options. Ultimately, I’m not tied to Biden as a candidate but I am tied to his agenda. If another candidate has a better shot at realizing that agenda, bring it on.

  10. We have four months. It would lead to a few weeks of chaos followed by a nominee who isn’t seen as senile, isn’t seen as way too old, and who can actually do competent public speaking. The Biden campaign is wrong.

  11. It’s such a no brainer. Incumbent advantage means fuck all between Trump and Biden. Put any warm body in and you win. Then take that advantage in 2028.

  12. good thing the election isn’t in a matter of weeks, it’s in a matter of months. Hell, we’re two months from the *convention*. Weeks of chaos would be worth it.

  13. As long as he doesn’t have to make presidential decisions after 4 🤷🏼‍♂️

“From 10am to 4pm, Biden is dependably engaged — and many of his public events in front of cameras are held within those hours.
Outside of that time range or while traveling abroad, Biden is more likely to have verbal miscues and become fatigued, aides told Axios”

  14. Guess how many Democrats who have voted in more than two presidential elections are in this thread

The majority of “Biden must leave for somebody” posters are Republicans and kids

  15. For four years we have faced down extremely challenging economic, societal and geopolitical threats globally. For that four years it has been handled by what is arguably the most eftective administration in the last sixty years when measured by the traditional standards most people choose to use. While Biden may have guided this team, it is fair to say he did not succeed on his own and were he to pass away or fail to the extant that he was removed it is unlikely that Harris would be irresponsible enough alter this successful course.
I am not voting for what I see on TV, I am voting for an existing and robust record of problem solving in which I have reasoned confidence.
    I will vote Biden/Harris.

    As for losing votes?
    trump is an Abomination.
No one is undecided right now, no one is switching sides.
    Hold the line.

  16. The reality is, while Biden may have flubbed the debate, it didn’t change a single vote from him to Trump. No one who was voting Biden before the debate is suddenly going to switch to Trump now.

How many women who are upset over Roe V Wade and the current assault on contraception and women’s health are going to say, “Gee, I know Trump caused all this and he even brags about it— but Biden (who defends women’s rights to control their own bodies), just didnt speak well in enough in the debate so I guess I’ll just vote for Trump and let the GOP take away the rest of my rights.”

How many elderly people who depend on Social Security and Medicare and are benefitting from reduced drug prices will say “Screw being able to pay rent, go to the doctor and afford to buy my meds! I better vote for Trump (who with the GOP wants to eliminate all of it) because Biden lost his train of thought reacting to a verbal vomit of lies and insults and didnt speak as eloquently as he did 12 years ago.”

I think it is almost impossible to debate someone who lies with every breath; lies about his own accomplishments and falsely accuses his opponent of more than he can possibly address in a debate format. How do you pick what to attack and what to ignore in the spur of the moment. Show me someone who can double down on all of that horseshit and then circle back to give a substantive answer to the actual debate question in the two minutes that was allotted. It wasnt just one topic of falsities per question from trump either. He was all over the place flipping from one assault of projections and lies to another while not even answering the question asked of him. You cant ignore it all either or people will fault you for not calling it out. You are damned all the way no matter what you do.

The bottom line is that this election comes down to decency, integrity and the future of democracy. Biden has been consistently working to address the issues Americans are facing. He has plans to continue bringing down inflation, stabilizing Social Security and Medicare, restoring womens rights, protecting marriage equality, addressing veterans, child, disabled and elder care, making college more affordable, standing against Russia and autocracy, restoring more US manufacturing and infrastructure, addressing climate change and wealth inequality. What about Trump? Name any of his policy plans that are beneficial to anyone other than himself. GOP has plenty of plans of their own if you read Project 2025 and that definitely is not a future that in any way reflects a country based on freedom. But of course, there are those who dont know and dont care and that is the biggest problem of all. All this to say that anyone with half a brain knows that to elect a grifter, rapist, thief, lying, narcissistic, felon with a record of over 35,000 lies while in office would be disaster for our country. Personally, I and many others will still vote for Biden despite a bad showing at a debate. Because Biden is also surrounded by an administration that shares his vision so it isnt as if he is doing all of this alone. Keep the faith & vote and get others to vote. Everything depends on it.

  17. Pulling a possibly weak candidate makes you look weak, disorganized, ineffective. Biden *might* lose, but there’s no other politician who polls in beating Trump and pulling the candidate now almost can guarantee a loss.

  18. The campaign has a point. We’re much too close to convention for a change in candidate to be effective or feasible.

  19. So I’m firmly an anti trump vote, so whoever he is running against gets my vote. The thing I think people should keep in mind is if Biden bows out Kamala Harris will likely be the replacement (the least chaotic alternative) and people seem to hate her more. Ifit is not her it will be a brokered convention that can be really shitty of the democrats aren’t smart (and what is the adage: Always count on a democrat to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory)

  20. The only solution is putting Biden out there as much as Trump, if not more than Trump. That’s it, constantly proving to voters he has his shit together and supporting him with surrogates. It’s tough, he’s old but he can do it.

  21. Its already in chaos because he chose to run when he should have stepped aside.

  22. Republicans wasted 15 rounds of ballots to choose a new speaker. Tell the new candidate to step up first or don’t waste our time.

  23. For anyone thinking Biden should step aside, who do you think is capable of getting enough votes to win? Pete? While I’m a huge fan, and hope to see him as president someday, there is a large segment of the independents and crossover Republicans that will not vote for him. Kamala? Same thing? Bernie? He’s older than Biden, although he has more fire. But too many people won’t vote for him. Gretchen Whitmer? Too many of them won’t vote for any women. So there goes AOC, too. Gavin Newsom? The middle of the country hates California. So who?

It’s not enough to say we want someone else. It has to be an actual person else that would get enough votes.

  24. Look at all the moving parts that have to be brought together for this to happen successfully, and even then, who knows how the eventual candidate will fare versus Trump:

    * Joe Biden has to be convinced to step aside. And in all probability, so does Jill Biden.

    * Kamala Harris has to be convinced to step aside if one wants an open convention. Give me one reason Kamala Harris will or should do this? She’s the current Vice President of the United States.

    * The open convention has to pick someone who everyone can unite behind and who won’t have immense negatives. How do you guarantee someone like Hillary Clinton doesn’t win an open convention? What if Bernie Sanders throws his hat in the ring again, and yet again, his supporters claim he was robbed?

And how would this be spun in public? How can the following be admitted:

    * We deliberately gaslit the public about Joe Biden’s actual condition not for days, not for months, but for **years**.

    * We deliberately gaslit the public that Kamala Harris was an acceptable Vice President let alone the future President, again, for years.

Do people seriously think a campaign of, “We promise we will finally nominate someone you can trust with the nuclear football. We swear!” is going to fly with the American public, at all?

  25. Just as easily as Biden losing and everyone saying ‘I told you so, this is Biden’s fault’, could be a situation where Biden steps aside and whoever replaces him loses, and everyone says ‘I told you so, it should have been Biden’.

Biden had a bad debate and stuttered and didn’t speak strongly. It’s really not the end of the world, is it? His policy and administration has been strong. He had a weak debate and has his old man moments, but in no way would I say he doesn’t understand what’s going on, or has dementia, or is mentally unfit for the actual job. His record proves it.

Meanwhile Trump rapes and is a felon and his base doesn’t even question it. So, I guess it’s a good thing progressives doubt and critique their own — really proves we aren’t a cult.

  26. Either this sub is getting astroturfed or now is a good time to remember why you’re all here and not actual analysts.

  27. That’s being asked to give up. There is no give up for a better person. Joe is the right damn person.

  28. Why even address this? Say it’s not happening and move on

  29. Which is exactly what billionaires and corporate news wants.

  30. As bad as the debate was he’s 100% right here if he dropped out now it’d lead to a colossal shitshow (should’ve groomed a younger candidate up imo but whatever)

  31. The fact that everyone in this post is arguing that one should drop out after a bad debate vs the one convicted of 34 felonies is so telling….

  32. I’m fine with weeks of chaos as long as we get to choose a candidate who is there mentally.

  33. Shut that doom talk down, NOW! The White House press needs to push all the successes of the Biden administration, go on the attack about the convicted felon and his promises to destroy the country

  34. I mean one thing not many people are talking about is that Biden could legitimately die of old age anytime now and we’d be super fucked

  35. He’s definitely not being switched out even if he’s likely to lose. The bigger question is how much more mentally gone he is in 2-3 Months from now.
