It’s a bit more complicated than that. Landlords also don’t want more accommodation for sale as that’s eating into their pool of renters.
And then you have the local residents that object to planning permission for a multitude of reasons.
Building homes doesn’t even appear to be an option, just sky scrapers with apartments that would make you envious of Norwegian prisoners.
More like protect their wealth or build private open prisons for innocent people.
I wouldn’t mind if they were building decent apartments but the ones they are proposing to throw up are overpriced shite
Maybe another hotel would solve the issue? /s
“Now available, luxury 1 and 2-bed apartments, starting at approx €80% of the median national salary”
There was an article this week about how some experts believe the government should aim to reduce house prices. The entire article was framed as if aspiring to lower house prices is some sort of whacky fringe unconventional aim, and the fact that even some people think house prices should come down is in itself surprising and newsworthy.
Building homes in Ireland may slow down the rise of property prices, but it sure as hell isn’t going to reduce them. Insanity that every single person living in this country doesn’t support more housing.
My job is to serve the people of Dublin. And I don’t care how many men, women and children from Dublin I got to make homeless to do it.
Ha, jokes on you. You think there’s an actual “build homes” button.
Not only will you take a BTL suitable only for students. But like the rest of this sub, you’ll bloody cheer if/when they give it to you.
I’d rather eat glass than rent a flat or room in Dublin
That’s easy, think like a career politician: what do you think will give you more votes? 70% of people own a home.
