The Highlanders who don’t want to be forgotten in the election

  1. Thought this was an interesting article, highlighting key general election issues (i.e., reserved matters) crucial for the Highlands and the broader Scottish economy:

    – Brexit: Particularly its impact on the hospitality and tourism sectors

    – Immigration: Businesses are calling for a separate Scottish visa

    – UK Investment: The article mentions the current housing crisis, with Highland Council suggesting an additional £2.8 billion is needed. It also mentions that Scottish government’s overall budget is heavily influenced by Westminster’s decisions, potentially requiring more investment than what the Scottish Parliament currently receives.

    – Energy Costs and the general cost of living

    – The Economy: Continues to be affected by Brexit and low levels of working-age inward migration.

I find it disappointing that few Scottish Parties are talking about these issues during the general election debates and in their party communications.

And given that the Highlands traditionally vote for the Liberals, it’s even more baffling that the Scottish Lib-Dems have chosen to talk about devolved matters during a general election campaign when issues like Brexit, immigration, and energy costs are affecting the Highlands (especially) and Scotland as a whole.

  2. Aye the snp has failed them.but labour in Scotland failed the whole of Scotland for eighty years.
