“Residents Association has told Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council that the scheme **will result in a depreciation of the values of Frascati Park** due to overbearance impacts as a result of the seven storeys and the scale and massing of the proposed block.”
At least they’re being honest that they don’t want their home values to drop – gobshites
Make it 17 stories and get er built
Nimby’s, Nimby’s everywhere
Everyone who oppose housing development based off investment reasons alone are scum.
Is 10k extra value on your house really worth denying others a home?
Every fucking day now there’s a new one of these stories.
It’s not in anyway unique to Ireland but the “I got mine so I don’t really care if you get yours” sentiment is shocking.
I used to work around the corner from the Frascati centre, and the Frascati Road always felt like a wide open space of nothing. It’s a main road, but besides the small shopping centre it’s all residential and offices. The whole road should be redeveloped with a mix of road facing residential, retail and offices.
I can’t tell, is that image a render of the proposal? Not supporting the nimby thing at all but that building looks like it’s been modelled on a derelict flat from Naples or something. Seeing a lot of places like this now, developers obviously just taking advantage of the crisis and throwing up any old shite

_”Ireland needs new houses – everyone deserves a home to live in, but …”_
This is the NIMBY equivalent to “I am not a racist but…”
The older generation in Ireland really are just absolute assholes to the younger generation.
Blackrock is one of the most highly-sought after communities in the country to move to. Anyone who moves there surely has the brains to see that, its untenable to assume no further properties will be built in the area once they themselves have moved in.
My advice to any of the children of these homeowners is to find a way to inherit their parents assets in the will or to emigrate
Just wondering, is there any way to lodge counter complaints against this bs?
> “The objection lodged by Dr William Killeen on behalf of the association states that “this is a simple transfer of value from the residences in Frascati Park to the developer, which is contrary to proper planning in my view”.”
Ludicrous take imo. Property in Ireland is at record highs, not because this guy looks after his front garden and renovated his kitchen, but because of artificial scarcity. It’s like saying if I owned the only house in Ireland, and someone built a second house, I would be transferring the value of my residence to the owner of the new house.
What selfish and evil little people.
Wouldn’t a drop in house prices be a good thing?
If they’re planning on moving, their buying power would stay the same since other houses would drop equally. Older generation here are the kings and queens of pulling the ladder up.
Why do people hate housing? I’m in Blackrock and am happy for this to be built.
This will maybe sound horrible, but: these are the times I wish western governments were a bit more like China.
As in: “Oh, you DO oppose this project within your neighbourhood? BOO-HOO we’re building it anyway. Also, -50.000 social credits for being a Nimby.”
I guess it doesn’t have a pool like the one in the ark bar where the greatest horseplay of all time happens
There’s no enough house but you can’t build here
I wonder if you could sort out a lot of these nimbys by requiring any development opposition to require a financial deposit then if the opposition fails they lose the money?
The government should avoid all of the Nimbys and create new towns, a few miles out from all the other areas and build loads of decent apartments….. not Irish apartments (starter flats/bedsits)……actual homes that are a whole floor of an apartment block.
I’d love to stand up to the objectors and ask them for their solution to where apartments should be built.
It’d be great if you could only object if you could provide an alternate solution/idea.
“A hotel?? no way! build more housing!”
“Apartments for rent? That’s just a scam to make landlords rich and preventing homeownership.”
“Affordable housing and council housing, no way, not where I live…”
No wonder we are where we are, feels like almost every day we read about another planning objection.
People demand progress but won’t put up with change.
Build it anyways, think of the absolute horseplay.
The thing I find absolutely laughable about this is that if they don’t start building these apartments most young people will emigrate which will mean a rapidly aging workforce and in turn less people to find the pensions and provide the services these people will rely on in their old age.
I was living in an estate at the edge of cork and some guy from the same estate came to the door with a petition to stop another estate from being built in the next field over.
Tbh I think people are entitled to a voice about what happens in their community.
Can you imagine what it would be like if developers had free reign? There’s a piece in the IT today which mentions an apartment block being built in Belfast on a motorway junction so tight on space the playground has to be put somewhere else entirely and the developers have been asked to pay for bus tickets for their tenants for 3y as there will be nowhere to park. It’s a build to rent too. 19 stories of awfulness it sounds like.
What matters is that there is a short clear process that assesses and makes a determination on views put forward in a reasonably quick period of time and that appeals are limited to people with a real interest and again are dealt with fairly quickly.
That is where the issue is. Not people voicing an opinion on where they live.
Apparently it’s due to privacy concerns. Have these people never heard of curtains? Or the fact that people have been able to see into gardens for a long time?
Honestly – planning permission here is a joke if these are blocked. Maybe if it was in the middle of nowhere it’d make sense to not build them but right in the city – jog on with your nimbyism.
We need intelligent city planning with forced zoning that changes as areas develop. Protects and promotes green spaces and good design but allows for big where needed. Would really encourage construction in areas where it’s needed versus this shite behavior by locals. I honestly think these should be 30-60 story buildings given that area in general is fairly shite as is. These being built will shoot up the value of local houses – these guys are morons if they genuinely believe that this will drop their house prices …I suspect it’s more of a fear of noise due to construction which would make more sense.
> simple transfer of value from the residences in Frascati Park to the developer
Oops, they said the quiet part out loud there. You’re supposed to shut down any new housing projects based on “the character of the area” or “preserving the skyline”. They outright said homes being built nearby will negatively affect the overinflated valuation of their property as if that’s a fucking valid objection.

Fuck those people
Add some more stories onto it to piss em off more
Affluence holds more clout it would appear.[They got the planning for a development in a park in Tallaght ](https://www.echo.ie/sean-walsh-park-older-housing-plan-approved/)
