Chocolate in Finland Survey

1. Why aren’t chocolate pralines an option for most interested in type of chocolate? We mostly consume Belgian & Swiss pralines, with bars etc being a minor part.

3. This is the English speaking sub for Finland so many people don’t speak Finnish. A survey in English would have been better. You can try r/suomi.

   I also think you should have in your survey preamble your data privacy policy and contact.

4. Answered the survey, but honestly you just need so send me a sample selection of your best chocolates and I’ll tell you if they’ll work in Finland 😉 

   We love our Fazer and for many it’s impossible to beat even when compared to the best belgian chocolates and such. That said, we do love artesan stuff so with a good social media campaign you’ll get people trying your stuff for sure. It just needs to fit what we like to keep us buying more.

6. This survey could use some more options for some questions about the respondent. My suggestions for added options are in **bold**:

   * Gender: man, woman, **other**, **prefer not to answer** (or don’t make the question mandatory)
   * Monthly income: (various incomes), **prefer not to answer** (or don’t make the question mandatory)

   This question doesn’t make sense: Asutko maakuntasi maakuntakeskuksessa?

   Most regions in Finland don’t have a regional capitol or regional center. Instead, there are usually many cities and towns of varying sizes in each region. If you’re trying to ask if the respondent lives in a major city, it might be better to ask what the population of their city or town is, and give a range of population sizes. Also, “Joo” is a more informal way of saying “yes”. The rest of the survey is written in more formal language, so “Kyllä” would be a better word for “yes”.

   Some of the options for this question are a little too narrow: Kuinka usein ostat suklaata?

   * Kaksi kertaa viikossa = exactly two times a week. This option would not apply to people who buy chocolate between 3-6 times a week. If the intention is “a few times a week”, a better translation would be “Muutama kerta viikossa”.
   * Kaksi kertaa kuukaudessa = exactly two times a month. This option would not apply to people who buy chocolate more than two times a month, but less than four times a month (once a week). If the intention is “a few times a month”, a better translation would be “Muutama kerta kuukaudessa”.

   Some suggestions for options in the question “Mikä on tyypillisin syysi suklaan ostamiseen?”:

   * “Ostaminen lahjaksi” would be better translated as just “Lahjaksi”.
   * “Omaan käyttöön” could be expanded to “Omaan/oman perheen käyttöön” (For own/own family’s use) to include people who buy chocolate for other people in their household, such as a spouse or children, even if they don’t eat it themselves.

   These questions could use an option for “Other” and the ability to enter a free-form response:

   * Mikä on tyypillisin syysi suklaan ostamiseen?
   * Mistä ostat yleensä suklaata?
   * Minkä brändin tuotteita kulutat eniten? (This question says that it requires at least two options to be selected, but some respondents might not buy more than one brand of chocolate.)
   * Mistä tuotteista olet eniten kiinnostunut?
   * Mitkä seuraavista mauista kiinnostavat sinua?

   The list of brands is inconsistent between these two questions: “Mitkä seuraavista brändeistä ovat sinulle tuttuja?” and “Minkä brändin tuotteita kulutat eniten?”. For example, the first question lists the brand as Fazer, while the second question lists the brand as “Carl Fazer”. “Generic Supermarket Brand” appears in English. It should be translated to Finnish if the rest of the survey is in Finnish.

   Some of the options for the question “Mitkä seuraavista mauista kiinnostavat sinua?” are oddly specific and do not correspond to existing products on the Finnish market. If the intention is to ask hypothetically which of these flavors the respondent would be interested in, a better translation would be “Mitkä seuraavista mauista kiinnostaisivat sinua?”

   There is a typo in this question: “Kuinka usein ostat **kösintehtyjä** ja laadukkaita suklaatuotteita?” It should be “käsintehtyjä”. That phrasing sounds a little odd. I would probably write it as “Kuinka usein ostat laadukkaita käsintehtyjä suklaatuotteita?”

   The phrasing of the question “Voisitko harkita tuotteiden tilaamista Portugalilaiselta artesaanisuklaita valmistavalta yritykseltä verkossa?” is odd. If the intention is “Would you consider…” a better translation would be “Harkitsisitko tuotteiden tilaamista Portugalilaiselta artesaanisuklaita valmistavalta yritykseltä verkossa?”

   The question “Ostaisitko käsityötuotteita fyysisestä kaupasta?” sounds like it’s asking about handicraft products, like knitted wool socks. A better translation would be “Ostaisitko käsintehtyjä tuotteita fyysisestä kaupasta?”

   This one sounds odd, too: “Mikä on yleinen mielipiteesi käsityöläisestä portugalilaisesta suklaasta?” A better translation would be “Mikä on yleinen mielipiteesi käsintehdystä portugalilaisesta suklaasta?”

8. Fazer is king, contains milk, is sweet but not too sweet. I especially find with foreign chocolates that they are either far too sweet (marabou, panda) or bitter. Brunberg is usually not my forte but it’s distribution in the army gave me a soft spot for it
