Normal bike commute in this morning. A driver in a big van swerved into my lane (no idea why, there wasn’t anything in his lane) so I shouted “WOAH!” as in “WOAH YOU’LL KILL ME” and slammed on my brakes.
He slowed down, shouted some abuse out of the window and carried on.
Normal bike commute.
They should’ve turned on hazard lights, would’ve been fine then. /s
Hope they got reported to the police and have some penalty points coming their way.
I was genuinely expecting it cross on the zebra crossing and continue driving on the opposite pavement.
I agree
London drivers are a league above in terms of driving in the most chaotic, dangerous way possible. I occasionally have to drive a hire car for various reasons, and my partner (who doesn’t drive) is constantly amazed at the amount of weird, unpredictable stuff that happens on the roads around here. Sometimes you just have to laugh it off, but the number of times I whisper under my breath “what on earth are they doing” even during one journey is terrible.
I’m also a frequent cyclist and motorists have absolutely no recognition for how vulnerable cyclists are on the road. They seem to forget that they’re encased in a tonne of metal and safety features, and I’m here on two wheels with just a helmet to protect me from them.
The amount of public space we’re already surrendering to people’s personal property is insane. Then they take the piss even further by doing things like this. Weird, entitled people.
Driver gets a ticket: but I wasn’t parked **ON** the zig zag!
A car on a pavement means the city is ruined? You need a hobby.
Did anyone report them yet?
*Dickheads with cars
Cars? No. It’s the selfish pricks that ruin everything.
Strong agree r/fuckcars
There’s still space for pedestrians, a parking bay would be suitable there as well as the high streets need places for cars to park but there’s hardly any and then the businesses complain of the fall in business.
Cars are assholes, cyclists are assholes, I’m an asshole. Everyone is a bit of an asshole in the city and most of us make it a little worse knowingly or unknowingly. This is what happens when our brains are wired for small tribes and we decide it’s a good idea to throw millions of us into one space. Covid properly broke what little thread there was that hung it all together.
Yes, agree.
Would love to see a future where cars are banned and we reclaim our streets, and plant trees, shrubs and wildflowers. Where we can hear bird song and experience silence from several ton vehicles shooting past.
Most car journeys are single occupant, and with the advent of electric motors we can switch to futuristic self-driving, self-balancing covered vehicles the size of motor bikes, or smaller. And invest in underground lanes for them.
And, I say this as someone who loves cars and driving
To the morons downvoting me – you’re downvoting yourself (assuming you upvoted the OP whose post I am copying). You don’t seem to understand a human was in control of the car, and removing cars will not fix your life. The human in control of the car will just ride on the pavement and dump the bike at the entrance of the shop you’re trying to get into anyway.
No they don’t there’s enough space for cars and people
Pride highlighted how much better London is when there are no cars on the road. It made going for drinks in the evening so much easier and so much more pleasant. I imagine this would also make cycling and other alternative modes of transport much safer and much more pleasant to use
I agree
Entitlement due to lack of punishment I think it is
How can I when it’s a fact?
untrue. Idiots ruin cities.
People always say this until they realise without cars public transport would be *packed* constantly.
London’s population predicted to get to 9.6m by 2030 so it’ll be gridlocked by then.
Cases like this are pure entitlement.
Parking on pavements in London is specifically unlawful, let alone driving down them, then diagonally at crossroads.
Anyone with a wheelchair or a pram would’ve got stuck there, let alone driving off as somebody walks past. The driver clearly DGAF. And what, to pop into the corner shop?
In big cities, sure. If you aren’t privileged and live outside, cars are a must.
Was cycling to work this morning and while going past a side street a Thames water van heading down the road in the opposite direction as me turned without indicating and almost hit me.
