Islandmagee is a beauty, and generally a lot quieter.
Avoid the Ards peninsula. The tides are dangerous AF. (Saw some dolphins real close up yesterday on the ferry there yesterday.)
Moira Lakes, Oxford Island, Groomsport Beach, Downpatrick, Dundrum Bay
Hey. Always good seeing people showing an interest on n getting on the water. However this post makes me nervous. That’s really a sheltered water boat, not suitable for going out in the sea. Your boat sits high in the water and can quickly get blown out. Sea kayaks are built to sit low in the water. Solo paddling is inherently dangerous too. Do you have pfd, means of calling shore (in a water proof pouch), wetsuit pr appropriate clothing for the water? Can you remount your kayak if capsized? Not here to lecture btw. We sea kayak every week and are trained on how serious the risks are. If you’re keen I suggest looking into belfast kayak club. £50 membership for the year, the ability to hire all equipment (£5) per paddle, and the expert guidance to keep you safe. The inflatable boats and solo paddling in tidal water is so dangerous. It might work out ok for you 10 times and the 11th you get pulled out by a quick offshore gust. We always advocate the right training, equipment and group for the conditions you’re going into. I know that the photo you posted looks very benign. However in the ocean things can get out of your control rapidly. Stick to sheltered water in that boat and get at least one other person out with you. The water is great and we all want to enjoy it without incident.
Camlough lake if you don’t mind a trip to South Armagh.
