  1. The strike was set to start on the 8th of July without an end date but now Unite has called off the strike for further discussions.

“But Unite officials rejected that, saying their action “had helped focus minds” and they are claiming a victory of sorts over the news that further talks will take place after the election.

However, in a letter to unions from Tata – seen by the BBC – it is clear the company had already agreed to further talks after the upcoming election.”

  2. Fuck around found out and had their bluff called majorly by Tata. Terrible move by the union and terrible management decision by them.
The nuclear option of striking can make things worse for the employees not always better and this shows that.

  3. If I lived there id be looking to move stat, it’s going to be hard soon if it’s not to late now.

  4. “However, last week Tata threatened to close both furnaces within days unless it could “safely and stably operate” them during the strike.

It then wrote to all three unions, offering to begin new talks if the action was called off.

Other unions have welcomed the news but have criticised Unite for giving Tata an excuse to shut the furnaces early.

Sources familiar with the situation accused the union of “playing a very dangerous game of brinkmanship with everyone’s jobs”.

But Unite officials rejected the claims, saying their action “had helped focus minds”.

Hopefully, Labour comes in and can make a deal to keep the one blast furnace on whilst the arc is brought online, then in those three years actually make a plan. More hopefully they nationalise the plant or even just the blast furnaces. More likely I fear they wring their hands and give London some money.
