Deepest condolences to this man, his family and to all that knew and loved him.
Fake news!! Helen McEntee said streets are safe so this can’t be true.
Suspended sentence on the way.
God love him, and his family.
Horrendous news. He has paid the price of us letting young people run amuck without consequences for their actions – the land of a thousand welcomes is a distant memory.
Well, that’s just irredeemably fucking awful news.
Sad and senseless.
This is disgraceful. RIP
Looks like the perpetrators will definitely face a custody sentence now…. Which would be about three to five years if they get Judge Nolan
JUSTICE REFORM NOW.
As a 47 year old man who’s lived all of my life in Dublin, it’s starting to feel like we’ve hit rock bottom. Since COVID it’s been a disaster.
The government should be ashamed of themselves. Get rid of McEntee, get rid of lenient judges, and give the Gardai the resources they need for a MASSIVE crackdown on crime in our capital. Either that or we take to the streets and solve the problem ourselves by going scrote-hunting.
Crime rates in Dublin will never go down until serious consequences for the actions of scum are firmly implemented.
I don’t think Dublin is as dangerous as a lot of the people here let on but I think it is well about time the government considers bulldozing large parts of Summerhill/North Circular Road/East Wall.
They’ve allowed scumbag ghettos to form too close to city centre. Despite being technically a safer city, people feel so much more threatened in Dublin and antisocial behaviour is much more visible here compared to cities like London, Amsterdam, Berlin etc because you have such a high density of reprobates living close to the centre who can target ordinary citizens while other cities have pushed these sort of people far out to the suburbs and trapped them there with deliberately poor transport links.
The government has indicated time and time again they’ve no interest in solving the complex socio-economic factors causing this sort of decay so the least they can do is reghetto them somewhere they’ll only bother each other instead of hard working citizens. More Tallaghts and Ballymuns please.
We’ll get a week of “extra” Garda on the streets in the City Centre and then back to normal.
And when I say “extra”, there’s no such thing. They just get moved from another area, where crime will prosper in their absence.
>A MAN struck a Canadian tourist “full force” in the face with a “running kick” while he was lying on the ground in central Dublin, it is alleged.
I can’t understand how much of a gremlin you would need to be to hit someone on the ground like that. Depressing.
Poor man. ‘Someone will be killed soon’ came sooner than we expected tbh. I avoid the city centre unless I have to go in. The idea that people visit the place for pleasure seems quite odd these days.
That is absolutely horrendous. Well fuck those two lads. I hope they get life now. Pair of scumbags.
Friendliest country in the world…
Something has to be done. We need new prisons. My heart is broken over this.
R.I.P to that chap and deepest condolences to his family and mates. I can see warnings going up in America and Canada, that Ireland is not a save country to visit anymore. And American put in hospital and a Canadian killed, both while on holidays in Dublin. Now a tourist tax coming in. People might say, fuck it, we’ll go to London, Paris or Rome instead. Why to kill tourism lads. But it’s not like we need their stinking money anyway.
Fucking awful news.R.I.P.
Jeez. Right after Canada Day.. Maybe one day things will change.
Government ineptitude has allowed all the poverty and violence to go unchecked.
Great. Attacking tourists will give us a wonderful reputation 🙄 RIP
