So I'm on a Norwegian fjords cruise and have seen a lot of houses just up in the mountains. I can't see any roads or proper paths. So how do they get down, get food or need help in an emergency? The place we're currently in is hellesylt. I'm just curious!

There are paths to walk, or sometimes drive something small like an atv. In an emergency a helicopter would likely pick them up.
Edit: Looks like there’s a small road going along the mountainside to the right. It’s probably covered in grass and shrubbery from little use, but should be useable with a 4×4 or tractor.
There is a secret elevator to the bottom of the mountains where beer wending machine located
Theyre under the trees.
In the old days, walking for people as well as probably a zip line for things. Some places are still like this, but they are 95% summer houses.
Now people got roads, often hidden by vegetation and terrain so that they can’t be seen from the fjord. Steep but ok gravel roads typically.
Is this on the other side of the fjord from Stordal by any chance?

There is probably a path down to the ocean where they have a boat.
Sometimes they use abandoned tunnels through the mountain built by trolls.
This probably has a road where you can drive your car. If not there is a path without obstacles.
Helicopter.
You might have heard about mule trains, but have you heard about troll trains?
I remember an old guy lived high above Odda, he would walk down once a week for stores. If you were walking in the hills it was considered kind to take him some items, food, newspapers etc.
That’s nothing. Kjeåsen was totally inaccessible by anything than by foot until 1974 (there was a small very steep cable way for goods, but don’t think it was ever used for people).
Done the hike up a few times. Marvelous when no one else is out.
