This article reads like an opinion piece and the bias seeps through its pores.
Also, thinking that the French will buy F35 (LMAO) or tempest in case of FCAS failure is unadulterated insanity. They’ll just do like the rafale: develop their own, at a higher cost.
I don’t see France replacing indigenous aircraft with foreign ones even if it will cost them more.
The main differences between the French led French/German/Spanish offering over the UK led UK/Swedish/Italian/Japanese 6th Gen planes probably comes down to the former being a little less manoeuvrable due to being designed for a carrier.
The weapons taking precedence will also be more multirole for FCAS, such as A2G, nuclear capable. While the tempest will be more of an air superiority as it’s more of a replacement for the typhoon as the F35 already takes the multirole place.
Yeah the UK is the one you can guarantee will make it work as the UK Aerospace industry has produced designs that succeed where others fail or designs no-one would really ever do
The famous British Aerospace Harrier family which was really the only successful VTOL Fighter Jet as….
* France flopped with the Dassault Mirage IIIV and Dassault Balzac V
* The Soviet Union’s Yak-38 Forger was a failure
* The USA flopped so hard with the Lockheed XV-4 Hummingbird and Ryan XV-5 Vertifan that they bought British
The British basically pioneered the modern age of aviation really
Following the recent AUKUS fiasco I think it’s unlikely the French will be in any mood to buy US or U.K. military hardware for a while. In the log run I think it’s also good for nato to have several strategically independent nations able to produce their own kit
