Olena Zelenska on speaking Russian: ‘It’s the language of the people who came to kill us’

зараз це неприємно говорити російською тому що це мова на якою якою розмовляють люди які прийшли нас вбивати і для того щоб відрізнятись від них для того щоб не мати з ними нічого спільного Я вважаю що це важливо не розмовляти їхньою мовою В той самий момент стратегічно нормально що ми її розуміємо тому що треба знати мову ворога для того щоб краще знатися на тому як йому чинити спротив і у нас величезне бонус те що вони нас не розуміють до кінця а ми їх розуміємо дуже дуже добре

For many people in Ukraine, it is not President Zelensky, with his trademark green sweatshirts and regular addresses to the nation, who provides comfort to the war-ravaged country, but rather his wife, Olena.

Composed, articulate and by her husband’s side on the international stage whenever their conflicting schedules allow, the First Lady of Ukraine has inadvertently become a powerful symbol of hope.

Yet behind her polished exterior Olena Zelenska has battled with the same anxieties and vulnerabilities known to ordinary Ukrainians, who continue to suffer the agonising consequences of Putin’s invasion.

In an interview from inside the Office of the President in Kyiv, Mrs Zelenska told The Telegraph that she has come close to “burn-out” as she struggled to cope with the magnitude of Putin’s war, while maintaining a brave face for her country and her children.

  40. Language is a human heritage. For a human to feel negative against a language simply because there is a war, is illogical. The language questions are irrelevant. The English and French committed many colonial crimes in Africa, so should Africa feel negative towards French and English languages.
