For me just means Germans want business and not war. Also don’t want to promise anything to Russia.
Fu*k us, right?
Seems like nothing change in German mentality since the Ribentroff- Molotov pact. I hope I’m wrong but I just cannot agree with Germans excusing the Russian agression.
From appeased to appeaser
Germany is seen as an untrustworthy partner in foreign policy and security issues by Eastern Europe. Before that changes I have a hard time believing in a unified EU-army or an EU-state.
And that’s why I’m not a fan of one EU army and common foreign policy.
“Realpolitik” sectarians are ready to stab neighbours in the back.
German for most just look after one thing, their money. They see Russia bigger, so they will side with them. Everyone here has an intrinsic “first feeding, then moral” (Erst das Fressen, dann die Moral) code in their way of seeing politics.
Also I think no country in Europe has more anti american sentiment then this country and all of them follow the “when america does not like it, we need to support it” rule, in this case its russia, tomorrow china and the next day whoever else. As long as its against guessed american interest, you will find a bunch of Germans following, even if this means destruction of a easter europeen country.
First to wave the EU flag and first to backstab their fellow Europeans. The hypocrisy of Germans sometimes…
It should be noted that the survey didn’t explain what the security gurantee entails, and most people wouldn’t know. They probably thought of it as a gurantee not to invade Russia.
I would take this with a grain of salt. The question in the survey was without any explanation and the average citizen thinks that security guarantees mean a promise not to attack Russia.
I don’t think i ever felt so ashamed to be part of this country as right now
EU withe Germany doesn’t even get a place on the negotiation table.
It seams that USA and Russia will make this confrontation on they’re own. Sadly in the Region of the Ukraine.
As much as I dislike Russian politics and I understand the fear of Ukrainians. I personally feel like Russia is like the annoying kid in school that bullies weaker kids and then when you back the weaker kid they go like „see! Everyone is against me! I need to defend myself!“ even tho they are the aggressor
That’s why I am personally (I think most Germans might have other reasons) don’t think we should send weapons at this point.
Russia is like a cranky kid with a stick right now and that’s why I think it is the right thing to be de-escalating and wait until Russia is less cranky to talk some sense into them (yes I know this can take a while)
Putin really just seems to be pissed that no one takes him serious and I don’t want to give him the feeling anyone really cares enough about him and his tantrums to send weapons.
If you ever dealt with a kid that behaves like this you know it is best to ignore them because they realize at some point how dumb they behave and calm down
I wish people would just ignore him to the point where he probably commits suicide just to get attention
I wonder how Germany would feel if the west (like the US, UK etc) pre-NATO did the exact same as Germany is doing today if Russia was doing to Germany what they are doing to Ukraine.
Would Germany think they would be doing the right thing?
Does any other european country think like this? What is this weird take? Why do they want to throw ukraine to russia? Unbelivable.
Dropping weapons worth billions on Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq worked well right?
Ukraine will be the next Syria if NATO can’t find a Diplomatic solution and all you Ukrainians want to seek refuge in Germany.
No one wants that
This is why direct democracy would be a stupid idea.
German apologists flooding this sub will find an explanation for it anyway and make us, ukrainians look bad again for being dumb not understanding their ultimate fucking plan including blocking us and Georgia from even beginning to work towards joining NATO in 2008 in which **putin threatened both Ukraine and Georgia** ([source 1](https://www.kommersant.ru/doc/877224), [source 2](https://www.pravda.com.ua/news/2008/04/7/3410762/)) if NATO expands and after Germany (and France) were like ‘ok then we need to appease putin’ and did how he wanted, russia then attacked first Georgia (literally months after the nato summit) and then Ukraine. Nowhere in between these two invasions (6 years apart) did Germany go like ‘ok we need to show russia where its place’. No, instead they were doing everything to make europe and themselves more dependent on russia. German apoligists will find a twisted way of explainin this, but literally no one in Ukraine left who will buy this shit. Deutsche Bank alone is the [center of all the corruption in the western world](https://www.theguardian.com/business/2019/apr/17/deutsche-bank-faces-action-over-20bn-russian-money-laundering-scheme), the amounts of money that goes through it to western politicians is simply astonishing, we are talking about tens of billions of russian dirty money, the range of which starts with local MPs to president of US Trump. And nothing is done to this bank, they are probably still doing the same shit. But german apoligists will find a way to explain that too, they got the answers ready for anything you throw at them, just like russians.
[This is what really germans think.](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskAGerman/comments/sadsgt/do_you_think_the_government_is_being_too_soft_on/) TLDR: *we dont care how many people get killed by russians because we dont want to freeze in winter* (you had over a decade to get less dependent on russian gas and make russia pay for invading Georgia but you did the opposite). *As long as its somewhere far away from us – we dont care.*
Thank fuck for the UK who was done with this German and France [appeasament](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appeasement) led EU crap and can act independently. And when we most needed it they showed everyone what **real** help looks like. No bullshit, no talking for months of what THEY MIGHT DO IF SOMETHING HAPPENS OR NOT, nothing like that – just pure and quick actions.
I don’t understand what the issue is. If Ukrainians are willing to die to defend Ukraine, then the least anyone can do is send them weapons so that they can defend themselves as much as possible or make an invasion bloody enough to make it politically not worthwhile for Russia to invade. That’s the most basic kind of support that Ukrainians need right now to help them in their unenviable situation.
Germany backstabbing us one more time.
I hate that Germany’s energy policy is a driving factor in European foreign policy.
Hope the gas prices stay up, so they can choke on their own policy.
I highly suspect that the questioned people did not know what the guarantees entails. At least in my immediate area. No one is really informed about this issue. I life in western rural germany for context and I am an outlier for being more informed about this. All those reports that blow up on reddit are only a newsticker worth here in the television.
It also does not help the german population that the government is far too quiet about this.
Well we did send 5k Helmets… /s
It makes me sad to see a Germany that prioritized good economic relationships with China and Russia of all places over our direct neighbors in EE. The Merkel Era set this trend tightly and I wonder if the new Government can fix it or set out for new policies.
Eastern Europe’s main goal will be keeping the US & UK on the European continent.
Weapon & Economic deals will be provided to make sure there is a vested interest. To the detriment of countries who want to appease russia.
Hi young German giy here.
What I think is we try to find a diplomatic solution to prevent war at all.
Sending weapons yet would close important doors of diplomacy as it obviously picking sides.
I have zero doubt that in case of war Germany stays side to side with our democratic european nations.
