I presume this would mean germany would be looking at cutting back on some of the specs for the FCAS and repurpose it more towards a strike aircraft as the F35 will fill the multirole area.
We’ve already heard that Germany is understood to be at loggerheads with France over workshare on the FCAS.
Would France be happy with that or decide to go it alone. Seems right now that France and Spain would be better making the FCAS and let Germany buy it later down the lie without any involvement.
I think it’s been pretty predictable than Germany would just buy the F-35. I don’t think Merkel wanted to do it while she was chancellor because she didn’t want to piss France off. But there isn’t any real alternative.
I don’t think the FCAS will actually happen, and if it does then those planes wouldn’t be ready for decades.
