The Parthenon marbles belong in Greece – so why is restitution so hard to swallow?

  1. Pleased to see that polls among the UK public point to people being largely in favour of returning them.

Also very surprised that Mary Beard and other Museum officials are a bigger barrier to this happening than Boris Johnson

  2. Coincidentally, today I learnt that Elgin was not the name of the guy who took them, but his title, Earl of Elgin.

He is also Scottish (also never mentioned it) called Thomas Bruce. The earlship of Elgin still exist to this day (and belongs to a 98 years old guy).

  3. I don’t disagree for the record before anyone has a go but I am rather pessimist by nature, has anyone else noticed the recent uptick in articles on this issue at least relative to past years? I wonder who’s took the cheque book out.
