No, we don’t do that for patriotic reasons, but to run a proper society. Germany in general has a low sense of patriotism, nobody would waste a single thought on Germany on the 03.10. It’s just a day off. Patriotism barely has any importance in our lifes, the most patriotism you’re going to see is during sports (especially football) and for some weird reasons we Germans like any form of attention, so much that we’re going to condescendingly hijack your commentsection to declair it as an offical property of the Federal Republic of Germany.
And yeah, compared to Germany, the US’ patriotism is rather extreme and untamed. Not that this isn’t happening in Germany, it’s just rather the exception and heavily frowned upon. Most Germans would already cringe at what this guy in the post wrote.
I wish this was as true/nice as he makes it out to be
I’m neither German nor American. And i never understood why most of the western countries always like to blame America for something. Specifically America. Not China, not Russia, not other EU neighbor country. It’s always America. And you can see that also here in Reddit. That’s funny and interesting 🙂
Never been to Berlin, apparently.
That’s describing how Trumpers display their „patriotism“. We don’t do that in blue states like California.
Comparing Trumpers versus the German society is not a good comparison.
Germany is protected and defended by American soldiers. We don’t have healthcare in part because of the ridiculous military budget. The military industrial complex originated from having to fight the Nazis and then 80 years of paying the to defend Europe from the USSR.
It’s complicated.
And it’s true to the point.
Solidarity is not patriotism.

After many years in NRW Germany and all around the US, the dirtiest US city probably had less trash on the ground than the cleanest German city. “Trash everywhere” is one of my biggest complaints about German culture. Am I an unlucky outlier or what?
I mean germany had a second chance to start all over again. Of course we make it better haha we learned pur lessons. Soon the USA will learn a big lesson.
Despite the fact our tax money goes mostly to people unwillng to work and migrants. so I would not agree.
Well, actually we mostly show patriotism by stunting on Americans every chance we get.
So let my son be German he was as born there but can’t be a citizen. Germans only care about themselves.
Have to disagree a bit with his last point. Otherwise +1
He’s got a point …
Just another case of an American asking a foreign nation “why aren’t you like us Americans….” *insert down syndrome voice*
that’s actually a nice summary/comparison. I like it.
The most German form of patriotism is lecturing others and feeling smug about us being better. This guy in particular has a point, though.
Man, this is such self righteous bull-shite. American BAD!!! GERMANY LOGICAL AND GOOD!!!!

Jens Böttiger, ich liebe dich.
And this post keeps making it’s rounds again.
He’s right except for the last sentence unless he’s never been to Berlin.

It sounds a lot like someone is jealous.
You can tell he’s German by the uncontrollable need to be morally superior and to show it to everyone.
I sure don’t pay my taxes for patriotism lol
Nation X citizens ARE patriotic.
Select bad and stupid traits of a country you dislike.
Select good and positive traits of a country you like.
We live in a society.
Yes, Germany is a paradise where everything is perfect and nothing wrong ever happens.
Sometimes this sub reminds me of those [brainwashed people in Avatar.](https://ih1.redbubble.net/image.896487035.5571/fposter,small,wall_texture,product,750×1000.u2.jpg)
