    Presidents have had immunity since the founding and every one of them has had the authority to do all this. This is nothing new.

17. The problem is the ruling puts the court in charge of whether or not the executive is immune. So Republicans are immune, Democrats not so much. In fact only a truly lawless executive could really take advantage of it since another administration would be afraid of lack of immunity occurring. Unfortunately a lawless executive is the Republican nominee.

21. The situation is a catch-22. If he takes advantage of it the republicans beat their drums about him being a tyrant and it might be enough to swing the election their way if it freaks out moderates, if he doesn’t and he loses they abuse it and use it to screw the country over.

    Ideally, he uses it in a subtle way, like what would normally be illegal surveillance, to gather evidence the justice department would need to convict Trump and his cronies of treason for being Russian assets. That’s just a pipe dream though.
