  1. “According to a translation, Ms Rangelova said that Ireland had an influx of immigration, which was a problem. She told the reporter that she was concerned about the kind of boyfriend her daughter could bring home, and imagined a scenario where her daughter would get into a relationship with an Indian person.

When the interviewer asked what the issue with that would be, Ms Rangelova said that her family are Bulgarian and that she would prefer to be with Bulgarians.”

Wonder if she’d have the same issue if her daughter brought an Irishman home?

  2. This was 2 years ago. It’s possible she has changed her mind.

She might not have but it’s not exactly fair to terminate employment based on their opinions from the past.

It sets a terrible precedent for the future.

Majority of people evolve and change their views.

  3. Did she say this in a professional capacity? She should not lose her job over a subjective opinion.

  4. Why would she be suspended for that? It’s her opinion, and a pretty mild one at that.

Is this the way we are gone now, not even allowed to hold a “wrong” view on something?

Thankfully the vast majority of Irish people disagree with her views on gay marriage and we have made great strides forward here but now people are losing jobs because they don’t happen to agree? Does that not strike anyone else as wrong?

How do the sanctimonious among us square this circle with religious views on the issue? Should all Catholics/Christians/Muslims who take their religion even half seriously be immediately fired? Or do they get a pass because the bullshit they sprout is in an old book?

  5. Immigrant who presumably came to Ireland for a better life doesn’t want coloured immigrants coming to Ireland for a better life.

Enough cheek for three arses. She’s a lot less welcome than the people she’s hateful towards.

  6. Kinda worrying how you can be penalised for having an opinion these days.

  7. Cancel culture is great.  What a marvellous time to be alive.  We live in a kind of benign totalitarian state, big brothers storm troopers won’t smash in your door and drag you to a gulag for wrong-think.  Instead a bunch of  concerned mothers will form a posse and have you sacked and publicly shamed or for lesser crimes they’ll invite you to publicly recant your problematic views.

Who fucking cares what she said.  She’s a gymnastics coach not the fucking taoseach.

  8. >Kristina Rangelova

    >problems with immigration

Suuuure Kristina, and would you be from the Connemara Rangelovas or Sligo Rangelovas now.

  9. Have we suddenly turned into a mini Britain? Because half the comments on this post read like they are copied directly from a bunch of sunburned bald English racists spewing crap about how they “aren’t racist they just don’t like foreigners existing”

  10. Are these not fairly mainstream views ?

38% of the country voted against gay marriage and [around two thirds want less immigration](https://www.newstalk.com/news/poll-two-thirds-want-more-closed-immigration-policy-1726109).

And most people I know would have lets say politically incorrect views on who they’d want their children getting into a relationship with.

If you get rid of someone for this you’d probably be sacking half the country from their jobs.

  11. How is this a suprise ? Not everyone around the world holds the same view on gay marriage or race as we do.
We are very welcoming to people from all over the world and of different sexualities, However, not everyone holds these same ideas. This is the consequence of allowing people from the world to live here. They bring these ideas with them that may not reflect what we think.

  12. She doesn’t have to worry Indians are just as, if not more racist than Bulgarians.

  13. Anecdotal but Eastern Europeans need to cover some cultural gaps when moving to rich European countries. Overheard some lass from there complaining loudly how Ireland is just like London now. The reference was an Indian family in view and she was loud enough they heard it

I just passed by thinking how Eastern European girls take on prostitution and similar professions in London but in Ireland have all kinds of support and are not seen any differently. I wish I had said this

  14. My best friends boyfriend is a bulgarian roma gypsy (self descriptors hes uses) is always going on about immigrants ect and i find it so odd as hes very clearly an immigrant himself.

  15. It’s weird when people are surprised that immigrants don’t like immigrants from other cultures and are against mass immigration and prefer been around their own people. We pretend we have this melting pot of different cultures coming together as community but in reality when they come over here they tend to stick together because why wouldn’t and they?

  16. Well, in my experience, Bulgarians can be just as misogynistic and shitty as Indians towards women, so I dunno what fucking high horse she things she’s on.

If it was pick one I’d tell them both to fuck off.

  17. It always baffles me why people who have jobs that are going to have public scrutiny, feel the need to speak their mind on controversial issues. You could lose your job.

    Just shut up.
