  1. If its anything like America commute their sentences or create better laws.

  2. Hear me out: maybe let the ones go that did stuff with small amounts of green plants in baggies?

  3. We have a high % of repeat offenders. Why is this when the UK used to have a fairly impressive probation system? The Conservatives came in, decided to privatise parts of it ( fun fact the clown who did this ,Chris Grayling ,is now being put forward for the House of lords) , destroyed what was good and working and then had to undo it all again!

  4. Meanwhile the USA is laughing at these amateur numbers

  5. Usually when people say something like this, they do one of two things, they reform the prison system, or give low level inmates/people close to finishing their sentences early release, which delays the problem

  6. New Prisons Minister: James Timpson, boss of the shoe repair chain which has a policy of recruiting ex-offenders, said in an interview with Channel 4 earlier this year that “we’re addicted to punishment”.

Looks like he is putting the right person in charge.

  7. This is because you do not properly utilize your inmate population you can use inmate labor to support current and future incarcerations.

  8. Funny, isn’t UK infamous for arresting basically anyone with a steak knife?

  9. They should release them like california did and watch everything go to shit.

  10. Maybe stop throwing dudes in jail for 4 months for carrying around a 6 inch Legend of Zelda replica sword?

  11. Just free prisoners who did minor crimes especially people of color.

  12. Let’s play “how many times can this be reposted.”

  13. How many thousands of without-a-doubt rapists and murderers and their attempted counterparts do we have locked up and farming money from us? Simultaneously, how many do we have locked up for weed possession or consumption? Simultaneously simultaneously, how many non-violent ones are willing and capable of helping reduce the manpower shortage we have in the military?

  14. So build more prisons. Doubt the UK is seeing crime fall

  15. So, fix the circumstances which lead to criminal behavior?

  16. I have been in prison. 80 percent of prisoners have mental health issues. Not my statement, it’s a statement of one of the prison warders I was talking to. I was in there because I was treating my bipolar with alcohol, which is a very bad idea.

  17. I initially read that as “we have too many *pensioners*”, wondering what they were going to do about it.

  18. Only make criminal reform laws for first time, nonviolent offenders. They deserve another chance. Don’t do it for all criminals especially violent repeat offenders like Canada did.

  19. We need to stop giving people short sentences. Most of them aren’t warranted, and short prison sentences increase the chance of repeat offending, it’s insane it hasn’t been done already.

  20. Didnt the brits just send a guy to jail because he had a tiny legend of Zelda play knife?

They could probably use a bit more common sense but don’t be like Canada that seems to never send anyone to jail until their 15th violent conviction
