I don’t agree with breeding pugs or french bulldogs etc but banning one breed, feels like a slippery slope into banning other breeds.

I do wonder by how much it’d push those who’d be so obsessed with certain breeds to just import them instead, not that the idea is totally wrong. But I would rather see actual harsh punishment for animal abuse and more serious action on puppy farms first before banning the breeding of certain dogs, even if they’re poor things like pugs

In my personal opinion I believe all countries should adopt evaluation methods such as Schutzhund and Sieger shows to determine which dogs should be bred for various breeds. These practices test a dog’s temperament and workability, unlike regular dog shows that only care about a dog’s look.

I think dog licences should involve a test. Physiology, training and general care should be covered and no one should be allowed own a dog unless they pass this test.
We also need to change the breeding rules to stop accommodating the greyhound lobby.
The problem isn’t the breed of dogs it’s the various organisations like KC, crufts etc that promote shitty traits.
Without these crowds of ‘governing bodies’ and shit if you’ve a dog that has an issue you either don’t breed it or you breed it with something that has a complimentary trait to try and correct. My father in law has had multiple champion sheepdogs and never gave a shite if they were 100% pure this and that, one of his best was 1/4 husky, he only cared that they were good sheepdogs.
My parents bred german shepherds for years and I grew up with them and have one now, have only ever had a couple with hip issues because we took them in from other people etc, and just didn’t breed them. They’re not going to win dog shows as perfect examples of the breed but they’re healthy dogs and basically the second best breed for every task you could want a dog to do.
