Good article as it summarises why the Defence Forces couldn’t boot out Crotty before his conviction (DF can’t prejudice a trial by booting him out beforehand) and why a commandant was present and speaking on Crotty’s service record (he was required to by military law drafted by the government).
To be clear, the victim here is Natasha O’Brien: the focus needs to be on her and she deserves justice. Likewise, the Defence Forces have serious issues that need addressing as evidenced by the Women of Honour.
But it’s disgraceful how the government have used the Defence Forces to deflect criticism, especially when Fine Gael refuse to comment on Senator McGahon.
Correct
The military do things by the book, politicians do things for optics
He said what he said with full knowledge of what could be done….purely for the objection of the leniency to be put in….
What’s worse here is that, when presented with the facts, Harris did what Harris does; doubled down on his stance and patronized the Defence forces with his “I don’t need you to…..” baloney. He’s just another arrogant ass who should not be in his current role. He doesn’t have the humility to accept he was wrong.
He’s the tik tok teesh, what else were you expecting, this guy is all populist soundbites,
This government consistently drives the defence forces and it’s members into the ground!
Harris was still correct to raise the issue, like it or not.
Simon Harris: “There are people in the Defence Forces who clearly knew this was happening, why did they do nothing? These are very serious questions and as Taoiseach I am not satisfied in relation to this, I am not satisfied at all.”
Employment Lawyer: “He will be well aware the Defence Forces has no power to suspend Crotty. The Defence Forces could not intervene at an earlier stage because to do so might have prejudiced the criminal case.”
Simon Harris: “I don’t need anybody to explain this to me or write me long tweets to tell me I don’t understand this, I understand it very well,” “There are already regulations in place. I think that within the parameters of what’s already there, it is entirely possible to have an effective dismissal of anybody convicted of a serious crime, but I also think that we have to go further than that.”
Are the likes of Harris, and his protege Miss McEntee, actual psychopaths?
(Psychopathy, or psychopathic personality – a personality construct characterized by impaired empathy and remorse, and bold, disinhibited and egocentric traits, masked by superficial charm and the outward appearance of apparent normalcy)
Why can’t they just hold their hands up, tell the truth, and say they were wrong? People would surely warm to and respect the honesty much more than the arrogance and the patronisation…
Simon Harris so far seems to be Mr. Sound bite. Whatever’s in the news he’ll have something to say in favour to please the crowd. He’s a snivelling weasel and has done nothing since becoming Taoiseach.
Which bus though, was it going to coolock or finglas?
